does it have to be life or death? no! but it DOES need to be noticeable!! there are a couple QTEs in D:BH and other games that i’ve missed just because i straight up didn’t see them on the screen. so high enough contrast/noticeable colors are good

I really enjoy QTE's in action scenes and this sequence from one of my favourite games is a perfect example. Ninja Theory's Heavenly Sword (2007) Nariko (the main character) is rushing to save her father from the soldiers who captured him.

Awesome!! Thanks for including the video example

@AmeliaRBlaire detroit, until dawn and expedition 33 have the best qte for me! love qte when you gotta really focus on the game and really be into it, its a nice way to feel like you're INSIDE the game, and yup qte with real consequences behind are the best

@AmeliaRBlaire Yes Expedition 33 was a lot of fun in that regard - max agree with the feeling of being “inside the game”. Sometimes I really miss being part of the action in a cutscene, like I want to personally push the button for the killing blow in a boss fight

@Pll_Lili @AmeliaRBlaire We are currently building the vertical slice of the game and one of the major systems we’re exploring is a Quick Time Event system

I really liked Wolf Among Us, Spider Man, and Experienced mode of DBH. It felt hard enough to be a challenge, but not soooo hard it frustrated you.

Hmm... like one other person has pointed out, QTEs should probably be opaque so the player would notice. Furthermore, the ability to disable them, like in Dispatch for instance, does help. One more thing is customization; I love Warframe having options to either hold or press.

yes, accessibility options for the QTE's will be implemented in our game for sure. Tap/Press and hold toggle and slowing or removing the timer is another.

Oh! Splendid! ...That's all I can think of at the moment, but good luck with your game!

I can't think of one game in particular, but imo the best QTEs are the ones that matter, that make you feel actively involved in cinematic moments or combat and that have real consequences if you fail them. Too many games have QTEs where it doesn't matter if you fail them

If its dialogue based game Telltale's games doing really good with it. But if its mostly interacting with objects around I really like Heavy Rain. When the character makes a move you also make a similar move on your control and it makes easier to dive into game I think.

@AmeliaRBlaire I think Until Dawn and GOW 3 have both the bests QTE ever!

@AmeliaRBlaire i love until dawns QTEs because if u miss even 1 it can change what happens entirely

@veshmewmew I would say god of war or Detroit honestly! GOW has some harsh ones, but they’re all really well made, and it adds to the story to be ‘good at combat’. As for DBH, missing some messes with your story sometimes, and I think that’s a neat mechanic to have in a game. :^)

Until Dawn has some of the best I've ever seen! The Don't Move segments are so unique, and the fast paced clicking sound from the controller that announces a QTE is also a great way to place the player in the scene further.

@AmeliaRBlaire Dead Space 2 has some great QTEs. Mostly, they're button mashings. But I think have a mix of single taps and button mashes makes for a good, driven narrative game. TW: Gore, violence and death.

The Walking Dead QTEs were definitely some of the most stressful, even though it was mostly fine considering you'd get a game over screen if you failed. Something like that idea but implemented into your choices having actual importance, especially if you mess up? Hell yeah!

The Counter Elbow Assault from Shenmue II

Already responded in the Discord thread on the topic but can we take a moment to appreciate y'all for actually asking these questions and caring about the answers? There are large studios that could learn from this. Respect!

Resonance of Fate is the most tough but rewarding RPG I’ve played. You take turns to build up points for a group attack. During group fun, you decide how to break enemy defences and reach their squishy centers. There are some QTEs but they’re more about strategy.

I liked the walking dead qtes

Telltale’s The Walking Dead has the QTE’s in different I remember you guys playing it on the PC and rapidly pressing the Qs and after that you hit the E. I hope you guys get to finish Season 3 A New Frontier & Season 4 The Final Season including the Michonne Mini Series soon!

Sonic unleashed has good QTEs

@AmeliaRBlaire heavy rain and until dawn definitely do a good job at it. i love the don’t move qtes in until dawn because theyre also stressful
