The year 2025, marking 50 years of Coal India Limited (CIL), witnessed multiple achievements that went beyond numbers—touching lives across mine-belt regions with a compassionate and people-centric approach towards workers and communities alike. Some notable achievements and initiatives: • Coal Production: 760+ million tonnes • Employee Welfare: ₹1 crore accident cover for employees and ₹40 lakh for contractual workers • New Uniform: Symbolising pride, unity, and One Coal India • Sustainability: 48 lakh+ saplings planted and 6 First Mile Connectivity (FMC) projects commissioned • CSR Initiatives: Projects of over ₹860 crore Under the guidance of Hon’ble PM Shri Narendra Modi ji, the Ministry added another impactful year of strengthening energy security, advancing sustainability, prioritising employee welfare, and demonstrating compassion for countless lives in India’s mine-belt regions. Coal mining in India began nearly 252 years ago, around 1774, with the first coal mine at Raniganj in West Bengal. Today, through coal gasification, India is witnessing the beginning of a new revolution in the coal sector. Under the leadership of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji, the coal sector has undergone a remarkable transformation. Before 2014, the news headlines around coal were often associated with uncertainty and negativity. Today, the sector is moving forward with confidence, reforms, innovation, and a renewed vision. This was one of those days that reminds you why public service matters. I met the little warriors of Thalassemia, children who fought battles far bigger than their age, and won. Their smiles and courage left me both emotional and deeply fulfilled. Through the "Nanha Sa Dil" initiative and the Thalassemia Bal Sewa Yojana, the Ministry of Coal has given more than 2,700 children a new life, free of any financial burden on their families. I also requested the parents of these children to reach out to me or the Ministry for any support with their education. Alongside this emotional meet, my Ministry also marked the launch of India's first sector-wide CSR framework, taking this mission to every child in every state. Maharashtra generates the highest volume of CSR funds in the country, creating immense opportunities to drive meaningful and inclusive development across the state. These resources are being channelled across diverse sectors, including education, healthcare, agriculture and livelihood, ensuring that benefits reach every section of society and every part of Maharashtra. The Government of Maharashtra and the CSR partners aspire to create a measurable and lasting impact. By bringing together the institutional strength, administrative capacity and implementation ecosystem of the Government of Maharashtra, these efforts will gain greater scale, speed and effectiveness. From inspecting railway station modernisation works at Vikarabad, Sri Bala Brahmeswara Jogulamba, Gadwal, Mahabubnagar and Jadcherla to reviewing key coal, coal gasification, mining and critical minerals initiatives, the focus remained on strengthening infrastructure and creating new opportunities. The period also included the Khelo India Dialogue – ‘Khel Ki Baat PM Ke Saath’, along with moments celebrating Raksha Bandhan and the timeless message of Sant Guru Ravidas Ji. Grateful for the opportunity to serve Telangana and contribute to the journey of Viksit Bharat. Sharing some glimpses of my engagements:

In the Rajya Sabha today, I addressed key questions on coal exchange, coal gasification, and mine closure reforms. Under the leadership of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, the Government of India has brought greater transparency and efficiency to the allocation of coal blocks through open auctions. Today, nearly 73–74% of India’s power generation comes from coal-based thermal plants, with around 80% of the coal produced being supplied to the power sector. Critical industries such as cement, steel, and fertilisers also depend heavily on coal. India holds the world’s fifth-largest coal reserves, sufficient to meet our needs for the next 60–70 years. We are further strengthening this position by accelerating exploration activities. Today, India is the second-largest coal producer globally, and Coal India Limited remains the largest coal-producing company in the world. We have also made significant progress in coal gasification, with projects worth over ₹64,000 crore underway. Highlighted that there are two types of gasification — surface and underground. We are actively advancing surface gasification, while underground gasification technologies are being carefully studied. I will share further updates once these are finalised. On mine closure, 143 coal mines are currently undergoing scientific closure processes. Dedicated nodal officers have been appointed for each site, with oversight committees led by respective district collectors. These efforts are focused not only on environmental sustainability but also on generating employment opportunities and ensuring a just transition for affected communities. Watch here:
