Our team VOCAL Africa together with Muslims for Human Rights (MUHURI) and HAKI Africa today escorted TL Elder and his family to report his incident with the National Police Service-Kenya at Central Police Station, Mombasa Besides the torture, Mwabili also saw the confiscation of his passport, phones, laptop and other gadgets by the Kenyan authorities when he was handed over back to Kenya. Police at Central Pooice Station have wrongfully refused to record his complaint arguing he should report the same at Diani Police Station which was his first contact station upon arrival. As VOCAL Africa, we want to tell the police that a Kenyan can report a matter at any police station. Once reported, the police should then escalate the matter to the relevant police station. However, in order not to give National Police Service-Kenya an excuse, our teams are proceeding with TL Elder and his family to Diani.

Kenyan police have a reputation for being problematic, corrupt, and violent, but this level of disrespect toward a police officer is unacceptable. The foreigner captured in this video deserves to be prosecuted, jailed, and then deported. I can guarantee that if it had been a Kenyan who dared to do this to an officer, he would have been beaten to death. Kenyan police fear whiteness and anyone who looks rich. As President, I shall send all current police officers for retraining and retire those who cannot be retrained. In my government, we shall pay police better, upgrade police stations to ensure better working conditions, and have officers live in the community. The police will be allowed to have a union to fight for their rights.

The investigator is for now busy with the enquiry and while investigations are underway, the police need the complainant’s statement to conclude a preliminary report and to register a criminal case. This woman went to a local nail salon, she treated herself to a full set of new nails and a nice pedicure. She was having a splendid time until they tried to ring her up. She claimed she didn’t have any money. They threatened to call the police on her. The woman claimed she would come back tomorrow, she said that her dad is a police officer with the sheriffs department and the people at the station said it would be okay. It’s been three days now and she still hasn’t come back to pay. I don’t think anyone at the police station would tell her it was okay to leave without paying, would you be comfortable enough allowing a customer to leave without paying, basically giving you an IOU?
