🇺🇦🇧🇾 During his meeting with Russian Ambassador in Belarus Boris Gryzlov, Alexander Lukashenko announced that he recently held a meeting with the representatives of Ukrainian President Zelensky to address the risk of Belarus getting dragged into the war against Ukeaine. Lukashenko noted that Belarusians don't want to fight with Ukraine, as they would have to shoot "machine operators and milkmaids" from poorly motivated Ukrainian territorial troops. Lukashenko also underscored that Belarus' position is peaceful, but added that it will stand together with Russia in any situation. This comes a week after Zelensky issued what can be considered an ultimatum to Belarus to remove retranslators used to guide Russian strikes on Ukrainian territory and warned against Minsk getting involved further in the war against Ukraine.

On Wednesday morning, the Estonian Police and Border Guard detected and observed the entry of three officers with the FSB Border Service of Russia into Estonia, with the crossing occurring at a point on the Narva River near Lake Peipus across from Vasknarva. Estonia has protested the illegal entry and summoned Russian diplomats to demand an explanation, while the crossing has been officially denied by Russia.

Americans are constantly told that Belarus is simply a dictatorship. I said as much myself to my fellow colleagues – local journalists. My goal is to show the real Belarus: a country trying to preserve its sovereignty, refusing to be controlled by the West, and choosing relations with Russia, China, and others on its own terms. You may agree or disagree with Lukashenko, but people in the West should at least understand how he sees his role – and why that matters.
