NEW: Southern California is getting obliterated by torrential rain causing flash flood warnings. The storm even caused a ‘Seafoam storm’ where strong winds blew foam onto people standing on the shore. The storm was thanks to an ‘Atmospheric River’ which is “relatively long, narrow regions in the atmosphere that transport most of the water vapor outside of the tropics.” (NOAA) The average Atmospheric River carries the equivalent amount of water as the average flow at the mouth of the Mississippi River.

From December 27th, 2021. Pretty much all of us, myself included didn't even know Frazil Ice was a thing. But temperatures were well below -10°C in Squamish, BC. This led to unusual behavior at Shannon Falls. At the bottom, the river was still actively flowing, but it was super cooled to a below freezing temperature now. So wheb it tries to flow, it keeps building an ice layer underneath it. Get it going long enough, and enough force can have that below freezing liquid water flow on top of the ice. Well once that force runs out, the water path gets cutoff, and the flow suddenly stops. And I mean suddenly stops. You are watching a portion of a river stop flowing, and immediately freeze in seconds and disappear. To this day, this is still the most popular video I ever recorded with many thinking this was fake, or the video was reversed. No! This video is 100% authentic, you are just watching something super badass that you didn't know was real. Like I said, myself is included in that! #bcstorm

Storm Surge example here in my hometown of Oldsmar, Florida during Hurricane Helene. The storm passed over 100 miles to the west. As the sun went down many felt impacts would be over. Storm center was heading north away from our area. That was when things got worse. The angle of the storm helped push water into Tampa Bay, towards the top of the bay, and ultimately here in Oldsmar. The water rose and receded quickly, all before sunrise. The damage, however, was done. Storm Surge went well inland covering many streets. And 100's of homes. Our area still is recovering with many still displaced. Camera is from Weatherstem and looks to the west. Location is in Veterans Park, top of the Bay.

This will halt the rising water levels of the river after reaching unprecedented levels in decades. Further reductions are expected in the coming days, as incoming water flows from Turkey are set to decrease. Video shows people moving along #DeirEzzor corniche in fishing boats.
