While I generally avoid viewing national issues through an ethnic lens, I have come to believe that Tutsi political and social dominance is a reality in #Rwanda🤭 Although insecurity affects all citizens, the Hutus who fight for Paul Kagame’s regime should view the situation surrounding Olivier J.P. Nduhungirehe as...

Calling for an end to ethnic politics while casually declaring “Tutsi dominance” and issuing warnings to Hutus is quite a contradiction. You cannot condemn ethnic division while actively manufacturing it. Rwanda’s politics should be debated on facts and policies not recycled Hutu–Tutsi suspicion. Wa gakobwa we, uyu mwanda wishoyemo uzakugwa nabi.

@PaulKagame There’s a kind of public humiliations you'll rarely see happening to tutsi govt officials of this level, it's an uncomfortable conversation we avoid, but needs to be addressed with all honesty.

Please what happened? Did Onduhungidehe get in trouble with Kagame? Please my Hutu brothers and sisters we have to come together and unite against this Kagame dictator before it's too late. Congo will not always be there to save us, let's join the Congolese and fight alongside with them!! Kagame is a ruthless dictator who will start attacking Hutus next!!!

Although publicly humiliating someone who holds a ministerial portfolio is disrespectful and unbecoming of responsible leadership, I find it very difficult to sympathize with Minister @onduhungirehe. He was once associated with Jambo ASBL, where he spoke out against abuses, human-rights violations, and restrictions on freedom of expression under the Rwandan government, yet he later chose to join and defend the very Kagame system he had previously criticized. When someone abandons the principles they once claimed to stand for and becomes part of the same system they once condemned, their credibility and the respect others have for them inevitably suffer. In my view, what happened should serve as a serious lesson to politicians who sacrifice their convictions for political convenience: power may embrace you today and publicly humiliate you tomorrow. #MillenzMovementRw #TeamIneza

This is exactly the ethnic lens you claim to avoid. Saying “Tutsi political and social dominance” as a blanket reality reduces Rwanda’s politics to ethnicity and conveniently ignores competence, institutions, history and individual political choices. If @onduhungirehe faces political scrutiny, judge the decision on its facts—not by implying that Hutus should see it as a warning. Rwanda cannot move beyond ethnic politics if commentators keep resurrecting it.🇷🇼🇷🇼🦍🦍

@PaulKagame It seems like an ethnic lens is the only way you view Rwanda’s politics. Accountability and legitimate questions should be judged by the logic and substance of someone’s statements, not by their background. Otherwise, it will only lead to more division and poor judgment.

@PaulKagame 1st off, ethnicity is/has been your focal point in just about everything! (This as another obvious example!). You deliberately miss the point that this interaction was more of guidance, direction & constructive criticism all round. That's something everyone should take to heart.

@PaulKagame And among everything that has been said here, you chose to focus on something so useless and rubbish. If your intentions are genuinely good, you should not be promoting ethnicity and division, especially given the consequences you already know it has brought to this country.

@PaulKagame This is ridiculous if you consider that Olivier holds the biggest ministry in the cabinet, and the most difficult one too and he has done a good job, minus that mishap of interacting with a journalist on social media!

In #Rwanda, things are even more complicated because, instead of focusing on the substance of a message and how it is expressed, greater attention is often paid to the #ethnicity or #PoliticalAffiliation of the person speaking. Among the #Ministers who engage in heated exchanges on social media, @onduhungirehe may not be new to controversy, but what about @DrBizimana, who frequently appears to harass fellow Rwandans online? Why does his conduct seem to attract no warning or accountability? Some of his posts contain serious accusations and insulting language. Yet, as far as I understand, he does not represent the public prosecution authority and should therefore not be publicly determining or assigning criminal responsibility. #DoubleStandards @Annemwiza @AissaCyiza @oswaki @HAKUZWUMUREMYI @JosephRyarasa @gat_steeve @PatrickRugaba @Gisubizoemilie @THEFUTURETV2 @IGIHE @KabagambeI @rukacarara @paul_rukesha @Nadia_MUGUNGA1 @ScoviaMutesi @curusaro @AMugenzi @FelixMugenzi @PrimatureRwanda @jpturayishimye @MUSABYIMANAG @MillenZMovement

@PaulKagame @sheilakamuzinzi You’re seriously lacking basic judgment if you can’t see that a minister has no business arguing with a journalist on X. The mistake he made is exactly what the President called him out for. Yet your shallow thinking somehow turned it into an ethnic issue. Idiot
