President of #Kenya, William Ruto: “I can tell you without an iota of doubt that the African Union as it is today is.. not fit for purpose. …it’s not fit to provide the leadership that this continent needs to move into the future.” The AU Chairperson, a former foreign minister of tiny dictatorship state of #Djibouti, is dragging the organization in the wrong direction. African leaders are increasingly uneasy with its current approach. He has turned the organization into a situation resembling his own country a slum sewer. Instead of acknowledging the real achievements of African models of democracy and good governance, such as Somaliland’s long-standing stability and functioning institutions, the AU is leaning toward outdated, heavy-handed positions that ignore realities on the ground and instead supporting the stance and the claim of the failed, corrupt, and fragile state models like #Somalia. It condemns Somaliland’s basic right to build its own relations with other countries, which is a mistake and a form of oppression against positive developments on the continent. Ironically, this same oppression reflects the current policy and situation in Djibouti the country of the AU Chairperson. Notably, the #Israeli ambassador to #Somaliland, whose appointment the #AU has recently condemned, previously headed the Israeli embassy in Kenya.

ZIONISM'S GRIP ON AFRICAN LIBERATION Many African people are shocked by the number of African politicians, celebrities, and friends coming out in support of Israel on social media. But African support for Israel is just as old as the Zionist manipulation of African freedom dreams and liberation struggles around the world. African Stream takes a look at just one of those histories of manipulation that took place in the United States. Let us know if your friends, relatives and favourite celebrities have surprised you.

For many years, I’ve traveled to over forty African countries as part of a mission to change the way the world sees Africa. In recent times however, I’ve been asking myself, how do Africans see themselves? It seems as though we’ve come to believe the stereotypes handed down to us for so long. That’s why we need a mindset shift and which is why I believe so much in this movement by the African School of Governance African School of Governance (ASG) to help us change the way we see our continent. I’m actually happy to have them come onboard something I’ve done all my working life as a content creator. South African Activist Jacinta Ngobese: "We Cannot Carry the Burden of Every Single Failed African President" South African activist Jacinta Ngobese has delivered a calm but forceful message to African leaders, insisting that her country should not bear the consequences of failed governance elsewhere on the continent. "We cannot carry the burden of every single failed African president," Ngobese said. She argued that communities are not wrong for demanding that the law be implemented. "If genuine asylum seekers need help, the government must provide refugee camps – not dump them in our communities." Ngobese, who has been vocal about immigration enforcement, clarified that her stance is not rooted in xenophobia. "We have never advocated for violence. All we've ever said is: enforce the laws." She also called out African leaders for their silence and incompetence. "African leaders must sit down and be honest, instead of going on red carpets while their citizens suffer." On the issue of passports and employment, Ngobese was blunt. "A passport must mean something. Coming here illegally and getting jobs? That is not acceptable."

Following my critique of Apostle Grace Lubega's comments on African names yesterday, musician Ykee Benda requested that I elaborate on my position. In response, I've created a video addressing both individuals, providing a nuanced analysis of the missteps in their criticisms of African culture and heritage. In this video, I offer an informative take that contextualizes the significance of African names, traditions, and cultural practices, highlighting the importance of cultural sensitivity and appreciation. On this #AfricaDay, we commemorate the 62nd anniversary of the founding of the Organization of African Unity (OAU), now the African Union (AU), established on May 25, 1963. The 2025 AU Theme of the Year, “Justice for Africans and People of African Descent Through Reparations,” underscores our collective pursuit of justice, dignity, and healing. This theme aims to develop a Common African Position on Reparations, establish an African Reparatory Programme of Action, and strengthen collaboration with the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) and the global African diaspora through a Joint Mechanism on Reparations . These efforts are crucial in ensuring that Africans and people of African descent receive justice in tangible and transformative ways . #YearofReparations

“There are no deadlines that the South African government has given at any point to Zimbabwe or any other country. What we hear are groups outside the official channels who talk about different dates. I just want to be clear on that matter, that in our communication with the government of South Africa and in our work, we are working on the voluntary repatriation of all Zimbabweans who want to come home with the collaboration and cooperation of the South African government. Not at any point have we been given a deadline.” Hon. Prof. Murwira, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade.

UN Secretary-General Guterres on Africa: Africa is a double victim of colonialism. First, because of colonialism itself and what colonialism has caused. We can talk about the transatlantic slave trade and many other aspects in which the African continent has been sacrificed. And then second reason why it’s a victim, because when the institutions that are today the multilateral institutions of global governance were created, the African countries, most of them, were still under colonial domination. So they were not present and they were not taken into account, and so Africa is not effectively represented in the multilateral institutions that exist today. And that is something that is a scandal that needs to be corrected.

Congratulations DP Floyd Shivambu for being awarded a Master of Science degree in International Development by the University of London’s School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS). The EFF believes that the now-tested knowledge that the Deputy President gained will benefit the movement as a whole and how we shape our economic relations and engagements when the EFF assumes the role of government of South Africa from the 29th of May 2024 onwards.

On this day, as we commemorate the birth of Amílcar Cabral, it is imperative to reflect on the profound impact he had on the African liberation movement and the indelible mark he left on the history of Guinea-Bissau and Cape Verde. His legacy is not just confined to the realms of political leadership but extends into the vast expanses of philosophy, diplomacy, and intellectual thought. The recognition of Cabral as one of the top leaders of all time stems from several factors: Philosophical Depth: Cabral was not just a political leader; he was also a deep thinker and philosopher. His writings and speeches delved into the complexities of colonialism, identity, culture, and liberation. He believed in the restoration of the African identity and emphasized the role of culture in the liberation struggle.

Hosted under the theme “Youth in Governance: From Promise to Prosperity,” the Symposium marks a defining moment in engaging African youth on the state of governance across the continent. “This is your space to propose actionable solutions,” she emphasized. “Let the AU youth agenda be driven at national levels, and youth voices be heard.” The APRM continues to strengthen youth inclusion and participation in governance, urging its national structures to host youth governance symposiums and amplify youth-led reforms.

U.S.-BASED PAN-AFRICANIST VISITS WESTERN SAHARA REVOLUTIONARIES India Pitts, a member of the All-African People's Revolutionary Party (All-African People's Revolutionary Party (AAPRP) on X) and its women’s wing, All-African Women's Revolutionary Union, has sent us exclusive footage showing her experience at the headquarters of the National Union of Sahrawi Women in Tindouf, Algeria. Pitts (India Pitts on X and @indiapitts on IG) travelled from the US state of North Carolina to attend the union’s 50th-anniversary commemoration. Other women came from countries, including Brazil, Tanzania, Zimbabwe, Mauritania, Spain, Germany and Portugal, to express their solidarity with the Sahrawi women’s struggle for self-determination, against Morocco’s occupation, and for continental unification. The union is the Polisario National Liberation Front’s women’s wing. The front formed in 1973 against Spanish occupation, later fighting Moroccan occupation starting in 1975. As Pitts relays in this video, the Sahrawi people embraced her wholeheartedly from day one. She said the indigenous group is dedicated to the cause of Pan-African unity, embracing and welcoming the African diaspora with open arms. The African diaspora can support the struggle in Western Sahara, the revolutionary movements of the Sahel, the fight against imperialism in the Horn of Africa, and the liberation of Africa everywhere by joining Pan-African organisations and building direct relationships with those that exist in Africa. What does it mean for you to see a young African from the United States being able to walk freely in southern Algeria with Frente POLISARIO (X)? I wholeheartedly agree with the former Foreign Minister of Somalia. Somalia's membership in the East African Community has not proven beneficial, and I believe we should not have joined this organization. I trust that the next President of Somalia will withdraw from it!
