While it's perfectly legitimate for Christians to take different views on regular migration, I think the Bible is very clear about how we should treat refugees. We are taught to love our neighbour and ask ourselves how would we like to be treated if we were in their shoes.

Well said , Tim. I am a fellow Christian & I totally agree with you, & anyone who says they are a Christian and demonises refugees has got it wrong. 'Treat others as you would be treated' is something people of all faiths & no faith at all can agree is a good thing for everyone.

Though the Old Testament invites a godly generous welcome to migrants it also stresses a strict conformity to the Jewish Law. When Israel takes on other religions this is seen as disobedience . It’s come in, but also abandon your gods, obey God’s Laws.

The language of neighbour isn't an abstract all-encompassing concept but expressive of those we encounter when out and about. It's an embodied term, to talk about it in such a disembodied way does the term a disservice and evacuates it of any substantive meaning.
