While several Muslim majority countries have chosen to restrict or regulate amplified calls to prayer, a mosque in Regina, Saskatchewan yesterday conducted its first live outdoor Adhan over loudspeakers. As this video makes clear, the broadcast carries far and wide. There's been unprecedented growth in Saskatchewan's Muslim population.

This was unexpected news for many Regina residents, who have since expressed concerns over the potential regular disruption of peace and the lack of consultation with the community. Regina Police have since issued press releases claiming that the amplification falls within bylaw requirements and discouraging threats targeted at the mosque. On Tuesday’s Rebel Roundup livestream, Sheila Gunn Reid and Lise Merle XX weighed in on the implementation, which appears to have been handled and approved solely by the police service. “From what I understand, Regina city council was not made aware of this,” said Lise. “The City of Regina administration is now aware of it, and fielding calls from a really concerned public — specifically Regina’s Jewish community.” Lise pointed out that Saskatchewan is often used as a “testing ground” to introduce radical ideas like these. “Activists — maybe including Regina Police Service — know that they’re never going to get more pushback than they do in conservative Saskatchewan,” said Lise. “So they test things on us here. A mosque in Regina wants to blast the Muslim call to prayer on loudspeakers pointed in all directions — loud enough to be heard a kilometre away. They did it last week for the first time and they want to do it every week. And Regina police have warned the public that if you aren’t careful with your criticism, you just might be prosecuted under Mark Carney’s new hate speech laws. It’s crazy. But the craziest part is who’s supporting this. It’s not just the mosque. It’s a left-wing church across the street. And it’s mainstream media journalists — who heckled me when I tried to ask legitimate questions of the imam. Canada was founded as a Christian country. It used to be standard practice for children to start the school day with the Lord’s Prayer. But in the 1990s a judge ordered Saskatchewan schools to stop, after activists complained it violated their freedom of religion. So Christianity was driven out of the public square. And now a Muslim imam has come to fill the void — with loudspeakers that can be heard across the downtown. What’s so crazy about the replacement of Christianity with Islam, is that one of the loudest boosters of it in Regina is a priest from the Anglican church right across the street from the mosque. I spoke with him, and he seems thrilled that the mosque will broadcast a message in Arabic, saying that Allah is the greatest and that there are no other gods but him. The only people more excited about all this were the journalists — including the Global News reporter who was wearing a hijab. It’s nuts. A mosque in Regina wants to blast the Muslim call to prayer on loudspeakers pointed in all directions — loud enough to be heard a kilometre away. They did it last week for the first time and they want to do it every week. And Regina police have warned the public that if you aren’t careful with your criticism, you just might be prosecuted under Mark Carney’s new hate speech laws. It’s crazy. But the craziest part is who’s supporting this. It’s not just the mosque. It’s a left-wing church across the street. And it’s mainstream media journalists — who heckled me when I tried to ask legitimate questions of the imam. Canada was founded as a Christian country. It used to be standard practice for children to start the school day with the Lord’s Prayer. But in the 1990s a judge ordered Saskatchewan schools to stop, after activists complained it violated their freedom of religion. So Christianity was driven out of the public square. And now a Muslim imam has come to fill the void — with loudspeakers that can be heard across the downtown. What’s so crazy about the replacement of Christianity with Islam, is that one of the loudest boosters of it in Regina is a priest from the Anglican church right across the street from the mosque. I spoke with him, and he seems thrilled that the mosque will broadcast a message in Arabic, saying that Allah is the greatest and that there are no other gods but him. The only people more excited about all this were the journalists — including the Global News reporter who was wearing a hijab. It’s nuts. You don’t need a Muslim majority in order for Islam to dominate policy. All you need is key Muslims in official roles placed strategically around a country to influence local laws. Once the local laws all around a country favor Muslim culture then add to that the influence of the Muslim electorate on highly corruptible non-Muslim politicians and the result is a de facto Muslim government.
