Today, I had the privilege of attending Paschimbanga Divas event, officially observed as the State Foundation Day by the State Government, first time since Independence, alongside Hon'ble PM Shri Narendra Modi Ji at Tarakeshwar in Hooghly district. The date June 20 and the venue is of historical significance as Dr. Syama Prasad Mukherjee had organised a Convention at Tarakeshwar in 1947, where a decision was taken to ensure that West Bengal remained within India and that the Hindu-majority areas of undivided Bengal did not become part of East Pakistan. Later, on June 20, 1947, a Resolution supporting the partition of Bengal and the inclusion of West Bengal as a in India was passed in the Bengal Legislative Assembly. Hon'ble Prime Minister while addressing the audience said the State of West Bengal is witnessing a renewed sense of confidence and pride and a new fragrance is wafting from every particle here; as if West Bengal has now broken free from its shackles. I express my deepest gratitude to Hon'ble PM for acknowledging the State Government's efforts to accelerate border fencing along the India-Bangladesh border, which the previous State Govt had deliberately obstructed. I also thank him for the support and assistance provided by the Central Government which is helping the State Government in fulfilling the promises made to the People of West Bengal before the Polls. Concurrently, the state government officially renamed the state-funded housing initiative from 'Banglar Bari' to 'Paschim Banga Awas.' He says, "Today, the West Bengal government has transferred Rs 6,000 to over 10.20 lakh beneficiaries under the 'Paschim Banga Awas' scheme... So far, the Prime Minister has allocated Rs 30,000 crore for 40 lakh houses in Bengal under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana. However, the funds have not yet reached the genuine beneficiaries. BMA Reports Smooth Christmas Operations at Lebombo Border Amid High Volume The Border Management Authority (BMA) has reported a successful and busy Christmas period at the Lebombo Port of Entry, a key border post between South Africa and Mozambique. Commissioner Dr Michael Masiapato stated that on Christmas Day alone, over 18,450 travellers were processed exiting South Africa. The vast majority were cleared through automated systems, with only 450 processed manually. Those manual entries are being reconciled on the Enhanced Movement Control System. While heightened patrols prevented major illegal crossings on December 25th, 88 individuals were declared undesirable for overstaying their visas. In the early hours of Friday, 26 December, enforcement efforts led to the interception of more than 80 Nike sneakers being smuggled into the country and the arrest of one person suspected of facilitating illegal migration. On the cargo front, operations were also efficient. Approximately 805 trucks were cleared, moving towards the Port of Maputo, and the N4 highway is currently clear of congestion leading to the border. “The Border Management Authority remains fully deployed and vigilant, ensuring both the facilitation of legitimate movement and the prevention of illegal activities,” said Dr Masiapato. The authority confirms that Lebombo is now operating normally but that monitoring will continue throughout the festive period.

We have dealt with the burden of oil bonds, addressed the “Fragile Five” economy, and undertaken bank restructuring and recapitalization. These were not small amounts but those of ₹3 lakh crore - ₹4 lakh crore, and now even fertiliser subsidies. Wherever there were weaknesses in the economy, they were left unaddressed earlier, and we are now paying for all of it. Yet, we are being questioned about GDP growth and fiscal deficit. The reality is that we are clearing the liabilities left behind. On spectrum allocation, after our government came to power, spectrum in bands such as 700 MHz, 800 MHz, 1800 MHz, 2100 MHz, 2500 MHz and 3300 MHz has been provided to BSNL at auction-determined prices for 4G and 5G services. On BSNL, I must respectfully say that every criticism made against it is incorrect. If anything, BSNL was pushed into a critical condition earlier. It was in the ICU, and we have revived it and brought it back on track. The Union Cabinet has approved revival packages for BSNL. The capital infusion between 2022 and 2023 stands at ₹2.26 lakh crore. This includes spectrum allocation, capital expenditure on infrastructure, AGR dues, and restructuring of the PSU. The Make in India mandate for BSNL is a strength, not a restriction. There is no restriction on BSNL. In fact, under the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative, BSNL has placed an order for 1 lakh indigenously developed 4G sites for pan-India deployment. As of 28th February 2026, 97,906 sites have been installed with 4G equipment, out of which 96,103 are already operational. Additionally, the BharatNet Programme is strengthening BSNL further. An amount of ₹1.39 lakh crore has been approved to extend optical fibre connectivity to all villages across the country. - Smt Nirmala Sitharaman in Rajya Sabha

Thousands of Bangladeshi nationals are voluntarily self-deporting from West Bengal lining up at the Hakimpur border checkpoint with bags, children, and years of Indian residency behind them. Since the BJP government's crackdown began under Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari, over 25,000 have crossed back into Bangladesh. These are people who voted in Indian elections, enrolled in welfare schemes, built lives here for over a decade. They are leaving because the political architecture that protected them and kept them here is gone. For months, Mamata Banerjee's TMC fought the Election Commission's Special Intensive Revision tooth and nail. 91 lakh names deleted from Bengal's voter rolls. I commend senior BJP MP from Ranaghat; Shri Jagannath Sarkar, for his animated & courageous speech on the floor of the Parliament regarding the plight of the Bengali Hindu Community on both sides of the India-Bangladesh Border. The persecuted Bengali Hindu Community in Bangladesh, who have to face existential crisis every few years, are in utter distress. There is no sign of abatement in the atrocities, which they are being subjected to. Even the Judiciary have failed them. On this side of the Border, the demographic balance have been altered by the current State Govt by providing a congenial ecosystem that shelters the infiltrators. This has resulted in disturbing the peace and harmony of the society. Continuous vandalism of Hindu Temples and nuisance in Hindu religious events in WB is the result of this appeasement and vote bank politics of the ruling party of WB.
