BENIN CITY, EDO: Yesterday, the hardworking security operatives in Edo State apprehended suspected cultists with gvns in their car. Their mission remains unclear. Same yesterday, the Edo task force stated that Courage (Maphite) was k**led over a revenue collection dispute, and that the retaliatory attack on Amen (Aye) was also a revenue-related retaliation. We acknowledge their position. However, Naija Confra stands firmly by its findings regarding those responsible, based on information received directly from members of the groups involved. While some are happy and quick to say Courage was k**led over revenue issues, they quickly blamed Maphite for Amen’s de@th, forgetting that the same task force also described Amen’s k**ling as revenue-related. The Pyrates (NAS) cult group must stop deceiving themselves with old stories and acknowledge that the movement they began—though once rooted in idealism—ultimately gave rise to the cultism we see today in Nigeria. It’s time they take responsibility and actively work toward addressing the crisis of cultism and violence, because with every life lost, the public is reminded of their role in what started it all. If prominent Pyrates cultists like Wole Soyinka and others fail to act—despite having a President of Nigeria who will listen and fellow Pyrates cultists in the legislative arm—then the dark legacy of cultism will follow them to their graves. And one day, the same violence they’ve ignored may reach the doorstep of their own group and its members.
