While we’re appreciating Conan, here’s his camera switcher bit he was doing during the ‘07-‘08 Writers Strike that, to me, cemented him as one of the funniest to ever do it.

I still remember so much of the writer's strike stuff, like when he hosted it from the back of the auditorium or from the rafters. That was the ultimate testament to me because damn if he didn't hold it down for weeks w nothing but himself.

Some of the best television I’ve ever seen. Groundbreaking while also so silly. I still watch ring spinning moments during random breaks from work all the time.

I still remember that the turtle race was from the year the super bowl was between the pats and giants because the giants turtle narrowly won, haha.

Worked in food service for like 3 weeks and Conan was across the street at the Chicago Theater. They order $3K worth of food but he came to get it and was he had the whole store dying laughing and hit us off with a wild ass tip.

I chopped it up but the full thing is even better:

“Old reference but cmon the guy was good” was probably popping up in my head and making me laugh for the next 6 months after

long live the king of late night

The Conan/Colbert/Stewart battle was one of the funniest things ever on late night.

Some of the best 8 minutes of television was towards the end of Conan’s run when Kumail Nanjiani dropped out last second and Conan had to improv the whole interview. Amazing.

@talkhoops Dude I loved the writers strike era so much I always got so excited for the ring spin lmao he’s really the best

Let’s give it up for Max Weinberg & the Max Weinberg Seven, MAXXXXX!!!!

the sad part is knowing that these days, a bit like this would give networks too many ideas

He’s the GOAT. Funny, entertaining, classy. Comedy at its finest.

Watching Conan during the writers strike was crazy. He literally made spinning his wedding ring mesmerizing television. He’s a comedic genius.

@talkhoops Hahaha the “mad at God” angle 😂😂

Conan was an absolute star during the writers strike. Out of box thinking while taking time out of his show advocating how important writers were and how shortchanged they've been. Breath of fresh air, especially since most other shows took the easy way and aired reruns.

"I'm the luckiest man alive."

The best segment from this era was when he brought on an MIT physicist to help break the ring spinning record.

I recorded all the latest night shows for a week during the strike, he was OBVIOUSLY the beat of them all and from then in I watched almost every episode of his show for 6 years lol he's a GOAT

Always and ever will be the GOAT

Conan does not get the amount of credit and appreciation that he truly deserves! Man’s a brilliant comedian and one the most humble and genuine people in showbiz.

dude has the sauce

Max Weinberg was the best prop ever

Lipstick Jungle. February 7

the goat

Great post. I’m sitting here thinking about how hard it would be to make that funny, and yet here we are.

Forgot this, it’s so great

The fact that this is Peak Conan is a prime example of how freaking operated this dude is. Jesus christ.

I never noticed how much he and Bryan Cranston looked alike until now.

@yosoyguapojr Conan was very funny before he became extremely rich and bitter. That’s a tough combination to overcome for comedy.

I think that the writers strike during that time was some of the best Conan, Jon Stewart and Colbert. Some of my absolute favorites.

I feel like I’m taking crazy pills. It’s so try hard and cringe, not funny.

omg I lol'd I didn't appreciate conan early on but now I think he's genius

I just keep replaying the "that's a good shot if you want to be mad at God" bit

@VoicesByZane This was a streamer type bit before streaming

Jade sedated for X-ray. She's healing.

the interrupter is still my favorite bit
