Joined AFGE at a rally outside the Detroit VA to oppose the staff terminations that risk veterans' care. We should be helping the VA recruit and retain a qualified workforce ― not dismantling it. I won't stop fighting to protect access and ensure quality care for all veterans, especially those receiving care at the medical centers in Ann Arbor and Detroit.

A constituent from Venice recently brought an issue to our office that Catholic veterans are currently unable to have a crucifix on their headstone at VA cemeteries. So I led a letter to the VA urging this policy change and got 45 colleagues to sign in support! And now the House is already taking steps to direct the VA to make the change. Our veterans fought for this country. They should be laid to rest with the dignity and honor they so rightfully deserve, including the ability for Catholic veterans to have a crucifix on their headstone. Check out the letter:

I have observed Democrats becoming increasingly alarmed over DOGE, claiming that Musk and Ramaswamy intend to cut VA benefits. What they fail to grasp is that Congress consistently allocates the funding the VA requests. However, the core issue lies not in the funding itself but in the VA’s inability to manage it effectively—a shortfall rooted in either incompetence or corruption. For instance, the VA’s 2025 budget has expanded to an unprecedented $370 billion. Yet, despite substantial funding each year, millions of veterans still grapple with poverty and inadequate medical care. Regardless of party affiliation, every American should demand transparency and accountability in how federal government agencies utilize taxpayer funds, including the VA. Understanding and addressing inefficiencies and wasteful spending is not a partisan issue—it is a matter of fiscal responsibility and ensuring that public resources are used effectively to serve those who rely on them. Hopefully, DOGE will address these issues and put an end to them once and for all.
