Absolutely love Noah Kent rocking a Miakka hat this week. It's a new private course his stepdad Dana Fry is building just outside Sarasota, FL alongside design partner Jason Straka and consultant Paul Azinger. I toured Miakka last week with Azinger and he called it “the 8th wonder of the world.” Sounds dramatic, but it’s not far off. They are turning dead-flat farmland into a rolling 7,700 yard monstrosity on the same scale as Erin Hills (another Fry design). It’s essentially Shadow Creek in southwest Florida...with Royal Melbourne-inspired hard-edged bunkers. I’ve never seen anything like it. The rumored budget is already in the high eight figures and there’s still more dirt to move. The course is using a new strain of Zoysia, and Steve Herring—Miakka’s owner and sole financier—liked the turf so much that he bought the company that invented it. So he literally owns everything from tee to green. I hit some balls on this unnamed zoysia strain and it is glorious. Luxurious. Everything comes off hot. 6-8 yards farther on every club. When Meg lied on Oprah that a senior royal has worried about what colour of skin Archie would be, I always said It was herself she was talking about.
