Genocide is the intentional murder of an ethnic group. European slavery was an economic model based on forced labor. The economic model was reliant on keeping slaves alive and productive. It was not genocide. Slavery is evil enough without calling it something it’s not.

I want to clarify something about the fundamental point I’m making. This video isn’t about litigating a list of grievances between racial groups. It’s about understanding that all humans have equal capacity for both good and evil. The difference between racial groups throughout history isn’t some fundamental moral quality - it’s about who had technological and civilizational power at any given time. Europeans weren’t more evil than other peoples. They were simply more effective at doing both good and evil at industrial scale because they were dominant at that particular point in history. When someone is in power, both their capacity for good and evil is magnified. Yes, Europeans committed slavery at the greatest scale. And the same cultures also gave humanity antibiotics, electricity, the scientific method, individual human rights frameworks, democratic governance, and ironically, the abolition movement that ended slavery. The point isn’t to excuse evil or ignore it. It’s to recognize that technological advancement amplifies whatever moral choices people make, regardless of their race. This is what “all men are created equal” actually means - equal in our fundamental capacity for both good and evil. That’s true equality. And recognizing this is the prerequisite to stopping the pendulum swing of resentment.

The origin of slavery is not the debate. Trying to move the goalposts is a typical redirection technique. Celebrating a regime that supported and relied on the incarceration of another human being should not be tolerated. Teaching and studying the atrocities of that era of the US is appropriate. Flying of confederate flags and other examples of this period like statues should not be part of anyone’s heritage. Flags of the third reich and statues celebrating the Nazis and Hitler are offensive. The same is true of the confederacy.
