@lopp In a way, Bitcoin is a bit like a cat, no one really controls it, but everyone loves to watch. Just the beauty of a truly free market.

@lopp It’s like asking who controls the wind; it just keeps blowing in surprising directions. Freedom thrives where control wanes.

@lopp Good framing question. Chip for everyday readers: no single CEO runs Bitcoin — miners, nodes, and users each hold a different lever, and changing the rules needs broad agreement. Which lever do you think people misunderstand most?

@lopp Foundry and Antpool and their four proxies (90% of the mining pools) control BTC without question. They are highly regulated by the US and China so unless you are childlike in your understanding of the world, you underhand that the US and Chinese States control Bitcoin

@lopp 2017 already answered it. The miners with most of the hashrate and the biggest companies signed the New York Agreement, and still lost to people running nodes.

@lopp Control stays meaningful only when users can verify, exit, and self-custody without asking permission.

@lopp Doesn't look like janitor work if 🏦 Core lets in tons of 🟥 Spam data like NFTs, Runes, Ordinals, Altcoins, Stablecoins, and a fuckton of more garbage. And more than one year of fighting to change that, without 🏦 Core's approval, says it's not straightening its path anymore.

@lopp Nobody controls Bitcoin in the corporate sense. What matters is that rewriting history still costs real energy today, paid continuously by whoever wants to attack the tip of the chain.

@lopp No one controls it. That is not a gap in the design — it is the design. Every full node enforces the rules; miners only order transactions. The day someone truly controls it, the premise fails.
