Who else remembers watching Paddington Bear on CBBC just before the 6 o'clock news?

Just plain old BBC1 back then, CBBC didn't exist. Yes watched it back then and have the dvd to rewatch it occasional. One bit I find very funny is Paddington having his elevenses with Mr Gruber and falling off his chair 🤣🤣

Proper Paddington rather than the fake one in the movies.

Absolutely love the original Paddington. Especially Series 1. The Bear in it had a nicer face and snout. Still superiour than the modern versions, a sublime 5mins of escapism. And Sir Michaels voice....wonderful.

It wasn't cbbc back then, in 1976 🤷♂️

Just BBC until 1985. Ivor the Engine, Willo the Wisp, Roobarb and Henry’s cat other evening ones. They had the early afternoon ones The Flumps, Trumpton, King Rollo and Mr Benn before afternoon closedown. Once Neighbours took off those 5 minute programmes before news stopped.

Pretty sure it was BBC1, and children's telly finished at 5:35 - at first it was Nationwide, then it was Neighbours, just before the News. But do remember this show. Lovely drawings! We had tea at 6 and our absent minded mum would be burning things cursing in the background.

Not wanting to be pedantic here but if you were a real "80's kid" then you'd know that Paddington actually came on at 5:35 (after something like Blue Peter or Grange Hill). The news came on at 5:40 and Nationwide came on at 6:00...

I remember it being on BBC1 at that time. CBBC didn't exist.

No CBBC Bollox back then

There was no CBBC at that time. It was only later on they created CBBC...

Loved this

BBC1 the original Paddington and his hard stares 😊❤️

Love Paddington. Still have mine, with the yellow hat missing and half of the "Please look after this bear" tag is gone. It's like my version of the Velveteen Rabbit.

Reminded me of Ivor the engine too!

The ultimate Paddington. Michael Hordern was perfectly cast as the narrator.

Jeremy Clarkson's mother, Shirley Clarkson, designed and created the very first prototype Paddington Bear stuffed toys in the early 1970s.

the real Paddington! Not that imposter from later films

The theme music is Size Ten Shuffle, written by Herbert Chappell, and performed by The Boyfriends. I have the old BBC Records 7" single.

The only Paddington, for me.

Absolutely 🤩 #Retro #1980s

I thought these were broadcast at 5.35pm ?

I do, but it was not CBBC, it was the BBC when I was growing up.

🙋♂️

Yes. And I still prefer this to the films

It was on BBC1 at about 5.35 or 5.40 in a 5 min slot just before the early evening weekday news.

I think I remember the sequence on BBC 1 - Starting at 3.35pm Playschool Jackanory Then some cartoon He man or Battle of the Planets or something. Crack a jack Blue Peter John Craven's Newsroround 🤔

Back when it was good!

My Paddington

I remember it before CBBC , it was on in the 70s too

Me

The only Paddington

Yeah that 5:40 finish sucked, but Paddington was class. Still is.

CBBC didn’t exist until 1985. Paddington ran from 1976 to 1980.
