Terrible analysis. We get a whole media storm about who funds Nigel and how he didn’t declare a gift but then if anyone asks how his only opponent in Clacton is funded, you just say ‘don’t be ridiculous he’s a bin’. This allows him to use his gimmick to evade criticism or media scrutiny. Also, Reform didn’t put themselves in this position, the other parties abandoned this by-election. I suspect because they knew it would make them look bad to make a big fuss about Nigel’s undeclared gift and then get smoked in Clacton, making this by-election a microcosm of the feeling the general public have about this story which is that we don’t care
