President Donald Trump is destroying the global economy, according to the media, Democrats, Europeans, and libertarians. The stock market is crashing. His administration is randomly and arbitrarily imposing tariffs, they say. And his tariffs are on the verge of causing a self-destructive global trade war. But policy should not be based on the daily movement of the stock market. The tariffs are not random or arbitrary but instead are based on a publicly released formula. And a trade war will lead to a much better outcome than the path Americans have been on. So says Oren Cass , founder of the think tank American Compass and one of the leading advocates of Trump’s nationalist economic policy. Based on Cass’s resume, one would predict him to be a Never Trump Republican, not a MAGA Republican. He is a Harvard Law graduate who worked at Bain & Company and became the Domestic Policy Director for Mitt Romney at the shockingly young age of 29. Romney, one of the most high-profile Never Trump Republicans, was also highly concerned with China. “I was working on trade policy for him and brought him the very standard, ‘Here's what a Republican says about trade’ starting point. And he said, ‘This is all fine. But what are we gonna do about China?’ “I remember the other economist was like, ‘What kind of question is that? We don't do anything about China.’ Romney was a very non-ideological, pragmatic guy with a business background. He said, ‘That's ridiculous. This is completely broken. What are we gonna do?’ “And I had the privilege of being sent off to find an answer for the candidate, at which point I discovered that the entire right-of-center ideological orthodoxy and the entire economics profession refused to engage with or think about this at all, even though it was a very real problem.” In our conversation, Cass debunked claims that Trump’s tariffs were arbitrary and said they demonstrated bad faith on the part of the people claiming to have debunked them. “My sense is that a deputy press secretary gave a confusing answer to a question,” Cass said. “The US Trade Representative's office has put out a whole detailed explanation of this, with the formula they used and the sources that they used. It's a PDF you can download from the US Trade Representative's website. “If you're somebody whose goal is to just embarrass the administration and confuse people, then you find a confusing statement from a Deputy Press Secretary and say, ‘Oh, see, nobody knows what they're doing.’” Cass pointed to people claiming it was strange for there to be tariffs on small nations. “I think there has been a lot of very bad faith criticism and intentional pretend confusion for the sake of fomenting a narrative among people who should know a lot better,” he said. “One example of this is whatever random island that only has penguins on it that people are upset about. Like, ‘Oh, like why do they have a tariff rate for this island with these penguins on it?’ “The answer is because US trade policy is done through a very formal mechanism called the harmonized tariff schedule, which defines the exact set of territory for which you have to have tariff rates and the exact set of products for which you have to have tariff rates. And it's a very granular set of territories and it does have random islands and so forth as entries on the list. And so if you're going to then announce what the tariffs are by territory, you're gonna have something for the islands on the list, right?” Another piece of misunderstanding Cass was on the idea of “reciprocal tariffs. “There was certainly a communication challenge in calling them reciprocal tariffs,” said Cass, “which people understand to mean ‘Whatever they do to us, we do to them.’ We're sort of holding up a mirror. But there was plenty of messaging for a couple of months leading up to this that what they meant by reciprocal was more like proportional, that it was going to be in relation to the size of the imbalance that we have with the other countries. I wrote a long thing in February walking through what they seem to mean and how it might look.” People are playing dumb, in other words. “They did a like, ‘We just can't figure this out. This must be some crazy mistake.’ It’s people who, politely, are not trying very hard to figure it out and are well-served by claiming it can't be figured out when, in, when in fact it can.” Trump’s tariffs will likely bring back high-wage manufacturing jobs just like Reagan did when he demanded Japanese car companies manufacture in the U.S., explains Cass... Sam Parr made a video about us hanging out and what he learned from it: “The people who are the best in the world at what they do, they're not two or three times better than the second or third place, they're a 100 or a 1,000 times better. And I've seen this a bunch of times. The most recent example was the other day with my friend David Senra. He has this podcast called Founders. It's one of the biggest, best podcasts I've ever listened to. It's very popular. Tycoons listen to it and he's become friends with all these amazing people because of it. I was at his studio and he had four (five!) very high-end fancy cameras and the most beautiful, fancy set that I've ever seen. And most podcasters they record with just two DSLR cameras. And I was like, David did these four (five!) fancy cameras actually matter compared to the two normal cameras that everyone like me uses. And without skipping a beat he said: “I'm trying to be the best in the world. Everything matters.” And then he just carried on with the conversation. He wasn't performing. That wasn't a performative answer. And the second thing that I learned the other day with David, when you're around these people who have this energy where they just feel like they're going to take over the world: That's contagious. I know that’s contagious because I still feel that way after hanging out with David. It's Sunday now. I was with him on Friday. And so this is a reminder to go and hang out with the best people you can. It wears off on you.”

I’m afraid I have some terrible news. The governor of America’s largest and richest state has just signed a law that puts 10 million children and adolescents in grave danger of medical mistreatment. The media headlines have it wrong. They claim that California Governor Gavin Newsom’s new law protects children by stopping public schools from outing their new gender to their parents. It does just the opposite. It makes children vulnerable to irreversible and lifelong medical abuse and mistreatment. And it is all based on the pseudoscientific idea that some children are born into the wrong bodies and that we can change a person’s sex through drugs and surgery. For any of this to make sense, you have to understand what’s happening in Britain. Several years ago, the government appointed a well-respected pediatrician named Hillary Cass to investigate whether it was ethical to block the puberty of children, give them opposite-sex hormones, and perform surgeries on their bodies to make them feel better about their gender. Dr. Cass came back a few weeks ago and said no, absolutely not. Around the same time, the British government banned puberty blockers nationwide. And, just a few days ago, the new Labor Party government affirmed that it would maintain the former government’s ban. In her report, Cass said that the so-called “social transition,” whereby a child adopts the identity of the opposite sex, is not a neutral act and has psychological consequences. This means it is the first step toward medical intervention. What Gavin Newsom has done is actively prevented schools from informing parents that their children have been put on a medical pathway. This is an outrageous attack on the rights of children and parents. Children have a right to go through puberty. No adult should be able to block their puberty. And parents have a right to know if their child thinks that they are the opposite sex or were born into the wrong body. We have seen with leaked internal documents of the leading gender medicine group, WPATH, that these medical interventions, namely puberty blockers, hormones, and surgery, are not only irreversible but result in sterilization and loss of sexual function. Children or adolescents are simply not mature enough to understand the effects of so-called “gender-affirming care.” They cannot, in other words, give their informed consent. The new law creates the grave risk that activist teachers, students, and outside groups will convince their children that they were born into the wrong body, and hide their “social transition” from parents, which will lead to harmful medical mistreatment. As such, the law that Newsom just signed is the opposite of what both children and their parents need. We need schools to immediately warn parents if their children think they are the opposite sex. After all, this is a diagnosable psychiatric condition known as “gender dysphoria.” And if your child has a psychiatric disorder, whether anxiety, depression, an eating disorder, or gender dysphoria, you have a right to know. And schools must stop teaching children, or allowing other people to teach children, the pseudoscientific and dehumanizing ideas that it’s possible to be born into the wrong body and possible to change one’s sex. As such, either the legislature, the courts, or a ballot initiative will be required to nullify Newsom’s law. Until then, it is important to spread the word to parents that California public schools are fundamentally unsafe for the millions of children who attend them.

The media was, of course, quiet about the vote, and the vote itself was held one week before Christmas, seemingly in an attempt to surreptitiously pass it under the noses of a distracted and busy public. MOST OF THE NATION IS UNAWARE THIS VOTE TOOK PLACE. The attempt to reintroduce the bill was defeated by just two votes (and no doubt those who voted yes won't accept permanent or indefinite defeat). Over 70 TDs and Government Ministers voted in favour of the bill. Including Minister Jack Chambers and Minister Helen McEntee. When I was 8 years old, growing up in Taipei, I called my aunt in San Francisco and asked: What is the best science and technology school in the world? She said MIT. I went on the internet, found it, and decided that was where I was going. All because of a Steven Spielberg movie about a little robot boy who wanted to find his mom. I grew up as an only child. What stayed with me from that movie was not just the technology. It was the possibility that one day, an artificial companion could understand how I felt. I became a machine learning engineer, built my first company, joined a $3.5B VC fund, left to build again, failed, started again, moved to New York alone, and built through one of the hardest crypto markets as a solo founder after the collapse of FTX. I kept going because I have always been drawn to technologies that change how humans understand the world. AI was the first version of that. Crypto and prediction markets are the next. I believe the future I am building toward is inevitable. The only question is whether I get to be one of the people who helps realize it. That future is a world where markets become information-first. The old model of trading was asset-first. It rewarded people with capital, financial education, institutional access, and better tools. Not a shoot, not a schedule. 🚨🚨🚨 I want to ask you guys this question, because nothing else makes sense to me : Is the military currently attacking the public? Before you get butthurt, please read the post and understand that I’m just trying to figure out what’s going on. It’s a very serious question that we should all be considering, because nothing else makes much sense, if you really think about it. If you have a better explanation, PLEASE TELL ME. No one else has the capability to covertly cause such damage to the world. Anyone who would dare try would simply get caught BY THE MILITARY. Imagine China or Japan or whoever you wanna imagine, used a DEW to destroy a large part of the USA, you really think the military wouldn’t know what happened? You guys obviously know by now that the USA military created and distributed the COVID vaccines, right? I’ll post the clip where Robert F. Kennedy Jr explains this in the thread. You guys also know that South Africa 🇿🇦 released their COVID vaccine contract with Pfizer, right? COACHES ONLY: THIS IS WHY COACHING EXPERIENCE MATTERS This post is primarily for coaches. Before I get into my own analysis, I want to give Venom Reacts (VENOM 😈) full credit for the film breakdown that prompted this post. He did an excellent job slowing the possession down, identifying where the defensive action actually breaks, and explaining why the final matchup at the rim does not tell the whole story. If you have not watched his video yet, watch it first. His explanation is worth your time. What I want to add is another coaching perspective. If you have spent years completing USA Basketball education, PGC training, NABC development, certification requirements, clinics, continuing education, film study and the thousand other things serious coaches do to become better teachers of the game, watch this possession and tell me what you see. Because I see a coaching problem. Mercedes Russell navigates the low-post screen incorrectly. She goes over it when the coverage requires her to get underneath. That single mistake changes the geometry of the possession and leaves Caitlin Clark forced into an emergency switch against a center at the rim. By then, the defense is already compromised. Clark did not create the mismatch. She inherited it. Could Clark have handled the emergency differently? Coaches can debate that. Maybe there is a late communication, front, dig, foul or emergency rotation January wanted. But none of those possibilities change the first breakdown. Russell loses the coverage. Clark is left trying to survive it. Then watch the timeout. Briann January appears to direct an extremely animated correction toward Clark. Clark clearly disagrees. Stephanie White stands between them and allows the exchange to continue. Now forget personalities for a moment and evaluate this strictly as coaches. What are we trying to accomplish during that timeout? Indiana is protecting a double-digit lead with roughly four minutes remaining. Clark is having a career-level night. This is closing time. My timeout priorities are clock, score, personnel, foul situation, remaining timeouts, offensive organization, defensive coverage, anticipated counters and making absolutely certain my five players leave that huddle composed and connected. The previous possession gets corrected only to the extent necessary to prevent it from happening again: Mercedes, get under it. Caitlin, stay home unless she gets caught. Communicate it. Next play. That takes seconds. Everything else belongs in film. And even if Clark had been completely responsible for the breakdown... I don't believe she was... I still cannot understand using precious late-game timeout bandwidth to publicly unload on a player who is carrying your offense and playing one of the best games of her season. Experienced coaches understand the difference between correction and emotional discharge. We also understand the difference between being a great defender and teaching great team defense. Briann January was an outstanding individual defensive player. Seven All-Defensive selections deserve respect. But playing credentials are not coaching credentials. Her publicly documented coaching résumé remains remarkably thin for the responsibility she now carries: brief college assistant experience while still playing, a long gap, two seasons under Stephanie White in Connecticut, one G League season, and back to White in Indiana. No head-coaching experience. No associate head-coaching experience. No independently established defensive program. And I have found no publicly documented USA Basketball, PGC, NABC or comparable formal coaching credential attached to her résumé. That does not prove she has never completed additional training. It does raise a fair question experienced coaches will immediately understand: Where was the apprenticeship that taught the transition from elite individual defender to elite teacher of five-player defense? Because those are very different jobs. A great defender can solve problems with athleticism, anticipation, toughness and individual technique. A defensive coach has to diagnose the first breakdown, establish five-player rules, teach screen navigation, define switch triggers, organize help behind the action and communicate corrections in a way players can immediately execute. That is why this possession bothers me. It is not because a coach raised her voice. It is because the film appears to show the coach directing the most intense correction at the player who was cleaning up somebody else's mistake. Coaches: watch the play, not the personalities.
