Code of Vets joins a large number of national groups (e.g., Wounded Warrior Project, Disabled American Veterans, USO, American Legion, VFW). $6B annually is collected by these organizations. Money the veterans definitely need. Go get ‘em Gretchen!

Specifically, it would allow Chapter 61 retirees (those medically retired due to combat-related injuries with fewer than 20 years of service) to receive concurrent receipt of: •Military Retired Pay •VA Disability Compensation Under current federal policy, these veterans often have their retirement pay reduced by the exact amount of disability compensation they receive. Current Status •Introduction: The resolution was introduced and referred to the House Committee on Rules on April 30, 2026. •Discharge Petition: Because the bill has faced delays in leadership bringing it to a vote, supporters have utilized a discharge petition to force it onto the House floor for consideration. •Support: The legislation has massive bipartisan support, with over 320 co-sponsors in the House. Background The act is named after Major Richard Star, a combat engineer who was medically retired due to cancer linked to burn pit exposure during his deployments.
