The closest time to midnight is d 12:03 am which is only 3 minutes from midnight but from his answer im pretty sure he’s just wording his question wrong. Now if your question was "whats the closest time TILL midnight" then it would be a.

It's a trick question, closest time to midnight. Doesn't matter which side of the clock of midnight, it's the closest that is or was to midnight, so it's D for being only 3mins away from midnight. Otherwise he'd ask, what's the closest time till midnight.

The answer is A, because if it's D or B, you would have to wait another 24 hours for it to be close to midnight again.

The issue is the TO or FROM. In this instance the question is TO, so A is correct. If the question was FROM, D would be the correct answer.

Bro, do you mean the shortest time until midnight, the closest time before midnight, or simply the closest time to midnight?

Does 12:06 AM even exist? Isn't it 00:06 AM at that point?
