Everybody is so dumb use common knowledge if you divide 80 by half that would be 80÷40 40 goes into 80. Two times Add 10 12 answer is 12

That's really not a math trick - it's just a poorly worded word problem designed to trap people.

The key words are “by half .5”, not “in half /2”. So, 170.

"By half" is misleading. Half of what? By one half = 80 / (1/2) = 160 or by half of the previous number (80) = 80 / (80/2) = 2. Duh.

If he had said divide 80 IN HALF then yes it would be 40+10=50. But he say BY HALF.... So that's 80/.5 =160+10= 170 is the answer.

It’s not a math problem; it’s an English language problem. Half of what? It depends on the context, and the question is misleading.

Divide 80 by half (80/40=2) + 10= 12 ??

Is it 12? Meaning half of 80 is 40 if you divide 80 by 40 that’s 2+10 is 12? Math isn’t my thing but that’s the only way it could make sense if it’s not the obvious.

Word games. To me, divide 80 by half means: 80/(1/2) =160 + 10 = 170

Would half be like half of 1? So "Half" could be like .5 so like 80 divided by .5 would be 150 plus 10 would be 160
