If you want people to to get the right answer you need to at least write it down correctly so people can solve properly. This is a misleading way to put it.

@Thevictoria76 What is he doing cutting the eight in half to make it a zero. That's not cute.

Too ambiguous. She’s not wrong. But if you would have paused after the first 8 then it gives a totally different result applying BODMAS. As it stands, she’s not wrong. It’s 8. Else it’s 12 if the forst statement is true.

The problem as stated is flawed. I wrote the equation as: (8 + 8)/0.5 - One half of the sum of 8+ 8 is ? I believe the answer is 32

By BODMAS it’s 12, but the way he says it, it’s 8. When spoken, pauses have implications. “Half of 8” (slight pause) “+8” is 12 “Half of” (pause) “8+8” is 8

He didn’t write down what he said correctly. So she’s correct here technically. But it is 12 by what he means. 8 + (8/2) 8+4 12

I hate questions like this. The knowledge required to answer it has no real value in everyday life. Most people don’t know half means 0.5, that you use it as a multiplication, or about PEDMAS meaning you multiplication before addition. 0.5 x 8 + 8 —————— 0.5 x 8 = 4 4 + 8 = 12

It’s 3 - 3 ….y’all thinking to hard lol. When you split an 8 in “HALF” literally what do you get? When you split a + sign what do you get?
