Today, the 30th of October 2024, marks my 52 years of existence. The birthday I am celebrating after my two previous ones were celebrated in prison under incarceration by criminal regime in Harare. My birthday cakes for the two previous birthdays in prison were thrown and kicked into dust by prison authorities labelled them national security threats. Up to present, I am still wondering how a birthday cake can be a national security threat. The note was written to me informing me that they will not allow my family to deliver my birthday cake as it was a national security threat. Birthdays are days to just thank God for the gift of life, love, and honour the day God procreated you. It is the day you will thank your mother and father for having been used by God to bring you on earth. The parental love to keep you in good health until moments you will be able to fend for yourself. I thank friends, colleagues, family, and everyone who celebrated with me when i was in prison, this special day of mine. I also would like to thank one of the best African poets who made the poem below and those who made the video as a special gift for my birthday. I love ❤️ you all !!!

NuNew : That first person said if he was later than that, he wouldn’t be the first person. So he has prepared it since the beginning of this month. Because he knew that when I come back already I would work, have events, go to places or something like that, and there would definitely be cakes to surprise me for my birthday. Therefore, he seized by doing it at the dining, the day we live-streamed when I was in blue shirt on the beach. When we entered to the restaurant, we were just eating. It was going normal. Then after we finished savory dishes, we ordered desserts just like we normally did. But suddenly a cake was served by 3-4 staff with a musician uncle guy playing music instrument for my birthday. I’ve no idea how he made a deal with them. Yeah, so we did the happy birthday wishes together already, had the cake together deliciously. The cake tasted so sweet, looking very good. This group of friends were celebrating a birthday, they had brought heir own cake in which was purchased at a high end bakery in the area. The server said they could use that cake instead of theirs but it would be a $400 cutting fee so they cut it themselves outside, I would do the same, that price is outrageous. There was a time in Hudson, Ohio where we went to celebrate a friend’s birthday. The restaurant was upscale but wasn’t like a 4 star place or anything. When I booked the reservation for 4 people we told them it was for a birthday. I asked them specifically if I was allowed to bring our own cake, our friend has food allergies and I had to get his cake at a specialty place that made a gluten free cake. They said it shouldn’t be an issue. They checked with the manager and the manager said it was ok. After having our dinner we were ready to do the cake. So I went to the car to get it so I could surprise him. At the door I was stopped by the hostess who told me it was against the rules to bring outside food in. I mentioned that I was told by a manager that it would be ok. They asked when I called and I said it was two days ago when they opened at 11am. She said well that was the day shift manager and he wasn’t there. She said we couldn’t bring in outside cake or food but they were happy to sell me one for $100. I said pass and I ended up just giving him the cake outside in the box as a gift so he could enjoy it at home.

Back in my childhood home in Provence, like every summer. And now with my daughters who at least for a few weeks a year get to live French countryside style, the way their father grew up. Every year when I come back the house has been invaded by vegetation, so I end up spending a significant part of my holidays just cutting the growth, all to redo it all over again the year after 😅 With my daughters reliving my childhood, and me cutting the same vegetation year after year, it probably makes the cycles of nature the major theme of this house. Which is what a childhood home is all about: a place where permanence reveals itself through endless change, a silent witness to your family's transformation.
