I will admit Hiphop is born from all of the past genres of music American Blacks have created but NO OTHER GENERATION DID WHAT WE KNOW AS HIPHOP. That's the generation who created it's contribution to Black music. It wasn't created in 1940 nothing.

It all started from toasting on the mic which is a Jamaican thing, the black American version is rap and hip hop. Simple.

Each genre of American Black music deserves the credit for the innovations they contributed. All Black music has roots in past genres but they all contributed their own sounds & styles. Hip-hop was created in NYC by Black kids. It was born from 60's & 70's r&b soul music.
