🦈 Wild Ocean Encounter: Tiger Shark Following a Diver in the Deep Sea! 🌊 If you’re swimming in the open ocean and a tiger shark starts closing in on you… your first instinct is probably to swim away as fast as you can. But according to this diver, that might be the worst thing you can do. In this intense video, the shark is actively following and gaining on the diver. Here’s what the video explains: “If you’re swimming in the open ocean and you run into a tiger shark, your first instinct is probably going to be to swim away as fast as possible. This is a natural response that most people would have… but at the end of the day, no matter how fast you swim, the sharks will be faster.” “When you swim away from a shark, it actually triggers a predatory response in them, making them think that you’re prey running away and that you might be injured or vulnerable.” The better approach? •Stand your ground. •Make eye contact with the shark. •Remain calm. •If it keeps approaching, use your fins or any object to create space. •As a last resort: push down firmly on the top of the shark’s head. The diver demonstrates this in the video, the shark actually pushes harder into his hand and rolls up above him. Insane footage and super valuable advice if you ever find yourself in the open ocean!

I’m running to beat the Democrats, clean up Lansing, and turn this state around. I’ve fought my entire life. Marine. Homicide prosecutor. Attorney General. This is really one of the most horrifying, yet awesome stories you will see. A woman named Tina Fey recorded the video below at Pensacola Beach in Florida late last week. This massive shark just washed up on the beach as people were swimming. After wildlife rescue and lifeguards said there was nothing they could do, a group of men tried to pull it back into the water despite the shark seeming to try and lunge at the men. Thankfully they got it back into the water without getting harmed. Would you have done this had you been on that beach?

Today is the 50th anniversary of “Jaws”. Steven Spielberg’s film made the summer blockbuster and was a masterclass in creating suspense in a monster thriller. We don’t see the shark until 81st minute of the 124-minute film (65% way in). It was a stroke of luck: the original script had a lot more shark in it but Spielberg’s shark animatronic kept breaking down. The electric wiring shortcircuited in the ocean saltwater off of Martha’s Vineyard. So, Spielberg found other ways to “show” the shark (filming from POV of shark in water or people’s terrified reactions). As the saying goes, “constraints breed creativity”. In a 60 Minutes interview, Spielberg explained how the failed animatronic made the film better: ▫️ “I decided to shoot without the shark and it increased, or torqued up the suspense of the movie because you really didn’t know where it would come from next. So, rather than seeing the shark in every scene, I played a lot of the fear from the people in the water. From seeing their legs kicking. From the POV of the camera moving along the surface of the water. That turned the movie into more of an exercise in suspense than just a horror film [With a working shark], I probably wouldn’t have had a movie as successful.” ▫️ The 1975 film made $470m on a $9m budget and became top-grossing film ever (before “Star Wars” knocked it off in 1977). Spielberg did the exact same playbook with the T-Rex in 1993’s “Jurassic Park”: we don’t see the apex dinosaurs until the 63rd minute of the 127-minute film (50% way in). This also became the top-grossing film ever at the time (~$1B box office). If a Republican Governor is elected in Michigan in the future, the current weapons ban at the Michigan Capitol can easily be undone. To prevent that from happening, we must codify the existing weapons ban into law. That way, if the law is to be overturned, lawmakers will have to publicly stand by their vote. Visitors to our capitol and those of us who work there have every right to feel safe.

If a Republican Governor is elected in Michigan in the future, the current weapons ban at the Michigan Capitol can easily be undone.
