Grateful. That’s the first word that came to mind as I left Dick Vitale’s home in Florida after presenting him with the Society of Professional Journalists’ “Fellow of the Society” honor, the highest recognition our organization bestows. Dickie V is unable to attend our national conference in October, so we spent today recording an acceptance video and taking photos to commemorate the occasion. He also loved the seven-page feature Q&A I did with him for SPJ’s Quill magazine. Grateful to have grown up in an era when Dick Vitale was redefining basketball broadcasting. His unmatched energy, larger-than-life personality and unmistakable charisma informed, engaged and entertained millions of fans while helping shape the modern sports television landscape. Grateful to Dick and his wonderful wife, Lorraine, for welcoming me into their beautiful home. I found myself just as captivated by the lifetime of memories displayed on their walls, photos, awards and keepsakes, as I was by the conversation we shared. He also asked her to record the video on this post and posted it before I did! Drama update for wowtwt: ever since being doxxed by Drohgoh a new challenger has appeared! 🚨#BREAKING: A 23-year-old is being hailed as a hero after he saw a woman TRAPPED ON THE TRAIN TRACKS with a train coming... ...so he sprinted out of his car and LIFTED THE RAILROAD CROSSING ARM WITH HIS BARE HANDS so she could reverse off the rails. The train passed SECONDS later. ❤️ His name is Josiah Baur, and he is 23 years old from Port St. Lucie, Florida. It happened last Friday around 5 p.m. in Hobe Sound, at Bridge Road and Dixie Highway. Debbie made a turn onto the tracks, and the crossing arm came down right on top of her car. Her antenna caught on the gate. She was pinned between the gates, sitting on the rails. If you are just meandering around, asking her what to do, ignoring her state, ignoring what she is saying, sending her off to go off on her own so you can meet up with her later, that is not a date. That is two people just sort of hovering around each other with no clear leader. Women go to bed with men who lead them. They friend zone or ignore men who don’t. Plan your dates properly. There was no strong central legislation, no serious institutional reform and no robust deterrent against organised paper leak rackets. The BJP government, on the other hand, recognised that examination fraud is not merely an administrative lapse but an organised criminal enterprise that destroys the aspirations of millions of honest students. That is why it enacted the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Act, 2024, providing stringent penalties against those involved in paper leaks, impersonation, organised cheating and examination fraud. The focus has been on dismantling the criminal ecosystem behind these rackets while strengthening technology, surveillance and institutional accountability to ensure greater transparency and fairness. So, Rahul Gandhi should spare the country the sermons on accountability. And while the Congress lectures others on compassion and democratic rights, it should also remember its own record in dealing with protests. Who can forget the midnight police crackdown on Baba Ramdev’s peaceful protest at Delhi’s Ramlila Maidan in June 2011 under the UPA government? Sleeping protesters were subjected to tear gas, lathi charges and force. Among them was Rajbala, a 51-year-old woman who suffered devastating spinal injuries during the police action. Paralysed after the assault, she fought for months before eventually succumbing to her injuries. The Congress also has little standing to lecture anyone on the right to protest after its handling of the Anna Hazare movement, when peaceful demonstrators were met with arrests, barricades and police force instead of dialogue. India deserves a serious conversation on protecting the integrity of examinations and safeguarding students’ futures. It also deserves peaceful democratic dissent, not orchestrated street violence sponsored for political ends. The Congress’s legacy is one of repeated paper leaks, institutional indifference and heavy-handed responses to peaceful protests. The BJP’s approach has been to strengthen the law, tighten systems and hold organised cheating syndicates accountable. Rahul Gandhi should first explain his party’s own record before attempting to rewrite history.
