The left side teaches the logic better and the right side is for a student who fully understands the logic of Algebra. A good Math student should be able to use both methods

@sun_usind Why do you think Americans do it the first way? I was taught the second way. I’m an American. Both work but the second is easier.

It's a basic algebra, long and short format of solving the equation. Not China nor America. Muhammad ibn Musa al-Khwarizmi is the Persian Mathematician who founded Algebra.

It’s a simple rule. What you do to one side of the equation you must mirror on the other side. Use that to reduce and simplify. If you know the rules of math you see the fastest way solve the problem. Learn the rules don’t simply memorize patterns.

There aren't any mathematical methods that're peculiar or personal to any geography. The first paid and followed details and realities while the second followed a faster way. Mind you, the coefficient of the bracket numbers, that is 9; if it's higher than 72—where it becomes complex to divide, you would realise the need for the first details.

Actually it’s INDIA the smartest one. In INDIA we calculate as below: 9(x-5)=72 x-5=72/9 x-5=8 x=13

USA made use of reality to solve the problem, China made use of assumptions to solve the problem

It’s nice when 72 divided by 9 gives you a whole number. But if it doesn’t, then you’re dealing with fractions to come up with the final answer. I’d prefer the U.S. way and only having to reduce a fraction at the end if needed

What the hell? I would have removed the 9 from the equation in the beginning. I was born and raised in California with a mediocre eduction. Not sure what China has to do with it.

Wait now you got me thinking my old Math teacher was a Chinese plant.... Ive been using china method my whole life and never knew why it always takes people so long to solve simple math problems.... Now I know Thank you...

The second way is a lot less useful when the equation is 7(x-5)=22

We learn the method on the right in the U.S. too.

Us. Addressing the parentheses is the right way to approach this function in this manner will create a habit to properly diagnose a more complicated one.

The USA method is smarter because it's universal. The China trick only works with specific numbers, but multiplying the brackets is 100% reliable and safer for complex equations. Reliability beats a shortcut! 🧠⚖️

Both of these are acceptable, and neither is a country based method of solving the equation.

Actually they taught us both ways in USA back In the day

they both got the same answer, just took different steps, not really smarter or otherwise, thats like saying a driver who takes a shortcut vs a driver who takes the normal route makes the shortcut driver a better driver

What’s the point of these posts? Both ways are taught in USA and China.

My maths teacher taught me the USA version, probably the reason why I don’t like maths

The american who came with this idea first then the american who gave you the tool to make this video then the american who let you post it on X. Stop these non sense. Huna being is huma being.

It’s all dependent on the equation structure. There is multiple ways to solve an equation. Was taught both ways in the USA. Obviously click bait or someone has no idea what they are talking about.

I’m an American. I would t do it that way. Divide both sides by 9 and you get x-5=8 so x=13. Can do it in my head.

We were all taught both methods in California in basic algebra. Dividing by 9 isn’t unique to China. Come on…

Who actually maths out the equation on the left?!? I see that and think "9 times 'a number' equals 72. Okay, 72/9 equals 8. Now, 'a number' minus 5 equals 8. Hmm, 13." Absurdly easy. Not to mention, what inbred writes their x's like 2 "c's" bumpin' asses?

Clearly you can do it in both ways.... but China be like ....

Obviously you've never studied basic algebra and learned factoring.

In China, it is x-5=8, x=13, there is no need to show /9; it is just a too simple problem, no one would expect anything else

The example you gave as "China" is the more efficient example in this case. I was taught in US middle school that there were multiple ways to solve these problems. This video demonstrates that. The key is understanding the operations.

In our school system at our country, Malaysia both method are being teached to us.. substitution and elimination method.. depends on the students, which method they are preferred.

I taught math for 34 years - most of my students would use the second method. It has nothing to do with China

Not true. I learned it the “China” way here in good ol’ USA.
