This is what the 400 people of Dhonfanu want to destroy cause they don't know how to make money from it. Their council is backing them, pushing land reclamation and now blocking access to Hanifaru Bay for visitors. This isn’t just another lagoon/reef. It’s the only place of its kind on the entire planet. The dream of every Maldivian should be to witness it with their own eyes at least once before they die. To see the mantas, the whale sharks, the living proof that we’re sitting on one of Earth’s most powerful natural treasures. And yet, Dhonfanu wants land reclamation. 400 people demanding something that would erase Hanifaru Bay forever. Destroy it. Gone. For what? For a patch of sand that means nothing compared to a global wonder. Their wishes cannot be allowed to outweigh the protection of a national asset that belongs to every Maldivian and to the world. We must all stand united against this. If we allow Hanifaru Bay to be destroyed, we deserve nothing but shame. Protect it. Defend it. Or lose it forever.

I don’t know who needs to hear this besides Dean Withers, but outlawing abortion is NOT comparable to the government forcing you to donate your blood, organs, or tissue to strangers or even friends and family. Here are four reasons why: First off, organ donation—while a miracle of modern medicine—is unnatural. The natural place for your organ is in your body—not mine. Pregnancy, on the other hand, is natural. The natural place for a fetus is her mother’s uterus. So you’re talking about natural vs. unnatural/manmade. Secondly, more than likely you’re not responsible for anyone ever needing an organ to live. That relieves you of any vestige of obligation to donate organs. So it would be immoral for the government or any entity to force you to provide organs or blood. But barring assault, a mother is very much responsible for her offspring needing her uterus to live; she took an action that directly resulted in this. She bears responsibility and has a moral obligation. Thirdly, there’s a big difference—morally and legally—between passively allowing someone to potentially die vs. actively killing him via abortion. You have the right to deny a kidney to a terminal patient who needs one. He may die if he doesn’t receive it elsewhere. But you don’t have a right to run that patient over in your car. Passive vs. active harm. Potential vs. assured destruction. Abortion is active assured destruction—fundamentally different from withholding care. Finally, we legally and morally have obligations to our own offspring that we don’t have to strangers—even to other children. Everybody recognizes this post birth. I’d argue that obligation begins when you become a parent, which is when new life is created, which is at fertilization. By the time you find out you’re pregnant, you’ve already reproduced yourself; that is your offspring; you are a mother. Mothers (and fathers) have obligations to their kids that they don’t have to strangers. And while we don’t force mothers and fathers to donate lifesaving blood and organs and bone marrow to their children, you’d be hard-pressed to find a sane and rational individual who would refuse to do that for their child, provided they were indeed a match. And if you did find that parent, you’d call them despicable and unfit—because they refuse to sacrifice parts of their body to save the life of their own kid. So not exactly the flex you think it is to compare that to abortion. Totally false comparison. Reject it at all costs. Not allowing mothers to kill their babies is not akin to forcing you to donate body parts to strangers.

We want to extend our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who donated, those who helped organize fundraising efforts, the talented individuals who busked, and everyone who reached out to offer their support. Without your kindness, none of this would be possible. The residents of Taba-ao in Tabogon, 6009 Cebu, are very thankful for the basic necessities we were able to supply. The joy in their eyes is evident, and we even had the opportunity to give some biscuits to children, which brought such smiles to their faces. It truly warms the heart to hear them express their gratitude with simple "thank yous." We would like to give a special mention to the 14 KaiRain homies team Cebu, particularly Jenn and her family, Jhinx, and Mamita, for their tireless efforts in grocery shopping, packing, and distributing the aid. While they were traveling, they also saw signage indicating the need for food and water, so they stopped to give aid. While they were on their way home, they still have rice and water, which they gave to the people on the side of the road. #WATCH: My remarks at the public meeting on political prisoner Surendra Gadling, and the alarming transformation of the Supreme Court into what increasingly appears to be a Managerial Court of Incarceration. Instead of deciding bail pleas with urgency, the Supreme Court often appears to find ways to prolong incarceration. Gadling’s case is a telling example. The bail plea has been pending for past two-and-half years, have been listed 25 times, one presiding judge has recused, and yet NO decision on bail. Instead, the new bench led by Justice J.K. Maheshwari appears more busy with reforming trial courts and addressing their administrative inefficiencies (lack of VC facility, vacancy of judge and public prosecutor, etc) through Gadling’s bail case. Why should Gadling be paying for the State’s inefficiency with his liberty?! The manner in which these benches have repeatedly indulged the government’s lawyers by granting adjournments and multiple “last opportunities” to file affidavits reflects this troubling transformation into a Managerial Court. One must ask: why are some judges hesitant to decide bail pleas of activists who have already spent years in prison without trial? Some for eight years, some five years, and so on. Why has the preventive detention case of Sonam Wangchuk not been decided even after seven-eight months? Why do some judges appear unwilling to decide such matters? #WATCH: My remarks at the public meeting on political prisoner Surendra Gadling, and the alarming transformation of the Supreme Court into what increasingly appears to be a Managerial Court of Incarceration. Instead of deciding bail pleas with urgency, the Supreme Court often appears to find ways to prolong incarceration. Gadling’s case is a telling example. The bail plea has been pending for past two-and-half years, have been listed 25 times, one presiding judge has recused, and yet NO decision on bail. Instead, the new bench led by Justice J.K. Maheshwari appears more busy with reforming trial courts and addressing their administrative inefficiencies (lack of VC facility, vacancy of judge and public prosecutor, etc) through Gadling’s bail case. Why should Gadling be paying for the State’s inefficiency with his liberty?! The manner in which these benches have repeatedly indulged the government’s lawyers by granting adjournments and multiple “last opportunities” to file affidavits reflects this troubling transformation into a Managerial Court. One must ask: why are some judges hesitant to decide bail pleas of activists who have already spent years in prison without trial? Some for eight years, some five years, and so on. Why has the preventive detention case of Sonam Wangchuk not been decided even after seven-eight months? Why do some judges appear unwilling to decide such matters? This industrial meat is full of hormones, antibiotics & pesticides, with more inflammatory omega-6 fats from seed oils in candy & ultra processed high fructose corn syrup & fewer anti-inflammatory omega-3 fats derived from a pastured diet.
