Why are people hell bent on calling Elden Ring a Soulsborne game? Why can't we just call it a Soulslike and keep things simple! I find it unnecessary to create another classification just to separate it from the rest.

Cause it’s made by From software directly hence why it’s called a soulsborne game. Every other game that isn’t made by FS would be a soulslike game.

The thing is that where does it stop? Will the next game be called EldenSoulsBorne? I feel one categorization is enough, there is no need to further define it.

No, cause even when Sekiro released, it wasn’t changed to Soulsshadowborne or anything. Soulsborne is the category strictly for FS and been that way for 11 years. Plus we can’t really say Elden Ring is a soulslike when it literally is made by the devs that made the genre lol

That's why I'm saying why not keep it just soulslike? When we have to make it souls orne, we clearly didn't make souls shadow borne a thing. 1 classification is good IMO.

People get really pedantic and bent out of shape over definitions. Hell, many will argue for hours over what game even is a souls-like or not based on trivial nonsense. My stance is just call it any of those, I will know what you mean and so will most other people.

What I find is that people call it Soulsborne to have a distinction that it's a Fromsoft game, and a souls-like would be everything that's outside of the Soulsborne category.

I wonder people are trying to create a class to separate FS from the rest. If you want the distinction then it's all ready in the name - A FromSoft game

It's so simple. Games made by fromsoft is soulsbourne and games which are inspired by its mechanics are called soulslike. What's so confusing about it, it gives the due recognition to original creators

Soulsborne are like in house games. Souls like are games made by other devs.

Souls borne are called only games from FS that play like dark souls and elden ring is one of them! Sekiro for example is not a souls borne game just a souls game because it has similarities but it's not the same BB is considered a souls borne too because of how close it is

It's literally Dark Souls 4 with a mount and jump button added. Nothing about it plays differently and the atmosphere is exactly the same. FS has has used the same lazy formula since Demon Souls PS3. (Aside from Sekiro and Bloodborne)

Any game that has Patches in is a Soulsborne and/or The Moonlight Greatsword in some form. This means Sekiro is not a Soulsborne.

In my brain - it isn't LIKE a souls game, it IS one. If it's by FromSoftware and it uses that formula then it IS a Souls game even if it isn't named one. Bloodborne was just their first one after Souls so we adapted the name and left it there. Anymore would be just OTT
