I think the problem is how they said "please be sure to purchase the game edition that matches your system". The information is clear and spread enough that most people know that both versions works on both consoles, but I really don't know why they phrased it that way Lord

Exactly. The audio guide in the last bit of the trailer was extremely misleading/adding confusion about these editions.

Don't plan on getting a Switch 2? Get Switch 1 version. Plan on getting a Switch 2 but not right now? Get Switch 2 version OR buy NSW1 version and buy upgrade pack later. Most you'll miss out on is a red case and fine print on the boxart. Big whoop. Either one would work.

It's their due diligence to advertise that way - they don't want general consumers getting outraged by accidentally spending extra on the Switch 2 edition when they only have a Switch 1 to play it on. That's the point of having all that text on the cross gen boxes.

Nah, it's mixed messaging in what they said in the video compared to what is written in the text.

That is literally printed on the cover of every single game that works that way ....you would literally have to put in effort to be confused

Switch 2 version is the Switch 1 version with an upgrade pack download included. Which is why the box art has the massive text box in the bottom. I'd rather get the clean S1 version and pay the upgrade pack as it will be the same but the box will be the clean version.

I'm buying the Switch 1 box and upgrade pack separate just so I don't have that stupid wall of text

The Switch 2 version comes with the Switch 1 game card, AND a download code for the Upgrade Patch. But yeah, Nintendo is doing everything they can to confuse you. And it's definitely intentional to cause people to spend more money.

yes you should buy the right game for your system, if a switch 1 owner gets the switch 2 cart they're paying more than necessary, if a switch 2 owner gets the switch 1 cart they don't get the upgrade pack

It is also 20 bucks more expensive so if you only have Switch 1, the Switch 1 version is way cheaper to buy.

I plan to upgrade to a switch 2 eventually, so I would prefer to buy the game only one time to have the most complete version.

They only install the upgrade path if there's a post launch patch. If you don't download the patch they won't redownload the upgrade path.

Holy crap, you’re right, this audio clip just makes it sound like there are two versions. No joke, I got so confused I had to pause it and zoom on the “Switch 2 Edition” to see what the fine print said just to be sure.

The fine print states switch 2 game cart is compatible with both switches. The S2 game cart is not the type that prevents insertion in the original switch. I assume the upgrade pack is installed on the cart like the sv dlc was in rev-004.

I don’t really get the idea of having to pay an extra 10 for the game them immediately after the dlc for 30 aswell. So I’m 100 in for a complete game it’s kinda annoying

I see that banner at the bottom of a Switch 2 game, I assume it’s playable on both consoles. If I don’t see that banner or there’s a key symbol, then it’s a Switch 2 only game. I guess I don’t get as confused as others.

Yeah, they do word it strangely and most of the people that will get confused are grandparents and non gamer parents. You and many other content creators have already made videos and posts clearing up the differences. Just hope it reaches the right audience looking for guidance.
