This is not neurodivergence. This is NORMAL human psychology.

Failure to communicate the why can also lead to the task being done improperly due to unstated requirements. If you say, "Move the thing," but don't state it will need to be retrieved soon after, it may end up moved in a way that makes said retrieval very difficult. The leaders who hate explaining why are the people in management who sink companies by unnecessary overhead.

Can we stop making everything about mental illness, doing this is a completely normal thing. You don't have to be autistic or neurodivergent for it.

Actually this isn't a neurodivergent thing, this is a failure to leadership thing, starting with why and getting the mission statement across tells the machinations in the system the purpose of doing. The importance in doing and gives morale to the worker. Why we do is paramount

Everybody needs to know the why. Otherwise we have people that chop part of the ham off to bake because that is what Grandma did. Never knowing that Grandma did it because the pan/oven she had was too small for the whole ham. A problem grandkid doesn't have.

Pay attention to how people react to your actions. It's an insight into how their minds work.

People in the replies not quite getting it. A neurotypical child will come to accept "Because I said so" as an answer. A neurodivergent child will NOT. My parents learned that the hard way. This isn't just about your boss at work telling you to do something. It's anyone.

I feel like the reason people don't explain why is that they are too lazy to explain it properly and also they have excuse to another person if it is done wrong even if they are obligated to show you what's right. Other than very very obvious things (Don't pull the fire alarm when no fire) you should try to explain everything thoroughly as possible.

So much this. Having more context as to the reason of WHY I'm doing something allows me to better know what to do in a tense, unusual circumstance where there are multiple, conflicting objectives and I need to prioritize.

I got terminated from the last job I ever had because of a misunderstanding like this. Then I got diagnosed as autistic.

its also due to a fear of uncertainty, and fear of messing up a unspoken social rule. If you know exactly why you are doing something then you're less likely to misinterpret and make a mistake

I often feel like neurotypicals are the true odd ones. Because they always take everything as offense. When someone is mad at me and I ask them what I did wrong they turn it into a mind game and tell me I know exactly what I did. No, I am asking to understand...

I know why these videos have food processing in the background (audience retention) But given the issue at hand, and sensory issues, i'd have to ask, ironically: WHY? some of those things look like they'd feel disgusting to me.

The thing I've found works is that you say okay first, and add something like "out of curiosity, is there any specific reason this needs to be done?"

Am I neurodivergent? When I worked cleaning rental cars sometimes the boss would ask me to drive them to the rental store and I’d ask why and he’d get mad. But it’s my job to clean cars and there are still actively cars to clean why enter a state of not cleaning any cars.

This is why work isn't appreciated. Because effort is subsidized for ego and authority. And that answer is true when all they say next is "Because i said so" or "Just do it/what i say".

A lot of people — regardless of wiring — don’t like to answer the “why” question bc “authority figures” are afraid to expose their tenuous bulllshit. FAR too often, the “real” issue w/ neurodivergence boils down to social rules that insist we *all* mollify emotional toddlers…❤️

They treat us as if we're just like them because they would be challenging authority and looking for ways to cheat, and have likely had others just like them ask exactly why for the very reasons they think you are.

I fucking hate the word neurodivergent. It’s a buzzword like trans and is nothing more than people trying to feel more important/interesting than they are.

I tried this with my ND ex. Explaining the "why" so the reason it was important to me stuck more than that they were "doing it wrong". It turns out they were just a narcissist...

Maybe your neurodivergence would cure itself if you didn't watch videos where random things happen while words blast by one at a time at 2000wpm

i just wanna know why! "if you can't explain it simply you don't understand it well enough" This means you need to be questioned until we both understand it well enough.

This is a good point but some things are a given (Visual, safety issues etc) Or give better questions like: what would happen if we don't do this? What's the purpose of doing this? Communication is a DIALOGUE. You have to speak and listen as much as your boss has to for you.

Then maybe find a more articulate way to ask the question, instead of "why?". It makes you sound like a 3 yo if you just say "why" to everything.
