It used to be that men were the only bread winners in the family. So when people got divorced it was understandable that the man would be required to support the wife who was home taking care of the kids and family. Now all those laws and ways of thinking are set in stone but family dynamics have changed dramatically. Now, both parents are often working, and women make the same or maybe a bit less than the man. The courts will still take a lot from the man and give it to the wife. So now the income differential is like 70/30 wife/husband. The man is now making $3 of every $10 and she is making $7 of every $10 of income. It’s bullshit. My wife is entitled to 50% of my pension (police officer) for every year she is married to me. It doesn’t matter WHY we get divorced, she gets it no matter what. I could catch her in bed with another man, and she could be abusive, and she still gets it. No matter what! It’s fucked up. Times have changed by family courts still fuck the husband/father.

Janet’s character sitting there with a straight face like “That’s MY money, I earned it” after her husband literally helped carry her through those long nights, gave her ideas, held her down emotionally, and built that whole thing with her? The audacity is actually insane. When the husband was bringing in the bag it was “our money, we’re a team.” But the second SHE blows up? Suddenly it’s solo mission, he didn’t do nothing. Marriage is a partnership until the checks start clearing, then it’s “I did this by myself” and everybody’s supposed to nod along.
