Trolleys have wheels that lock now if you haven’t taken them thru the cash register. In the store I work in the wheels lock and an alarm sounds to alert us someone is trying to leave without paying. We can then unlock the wheels with a device and check if they have a receipt

What is a person to do if they have too many bags of groceries to carry out to their car?

I looked up the sign, apparently you can’t even take any cart outside to your car at this store, nothing to do with if the items were potentially stolen. Which would pretty much make me want to not shop there.

My local grocery stores are installing these wheel locks to their carts. If the cart doesn't go thru a checkout, there is a radio signal in the wheel that a wire at the doorway locks the wheel until you either go back and pay or show your receipt.

There’s literally a sign in the video saying the wheels will lock if you try to leave the store with the cart. Nothing here insinuated that she was trying to steal anything.

I've never seen the security brake used inside a store. I've seen it used at the end of the parking lot so you can't remove the cart. There's a flaw in the system that will let you pull the cart past the boundary. Good thing she hasn't figured out how yet.

That's Burlingtons... their shopping carts don't go outside... they have a security strip within them that stops them from exiting the store...

The staff is shouting at her, " you can t leave with that " she but she ignores him. There were notices saying NOT to take the trollies out of the store but she decide to ignore the notice.

Does anyone actually think that a shoplifter smart enough to place things in the cart that are not paid for, is not smart enough to just lift the bags out of the cart and keep on walking???

There is a device (in the floor) that interacts with the wheels and locks them up, that preventing them from leaving the store when activated. Some stores - like some Publix locations in Florida - have a strip of paint around the border of their store’s parking lot that does the same thing. Prevents people from stealing the carts or taking them off property. Either they believed she was possibly stealing something, or someone accidentally triggers the locking mechanism. Because in between the doors like that, the locking mechanism should remain disengaged unless trying to stop a shoplifter.

The cart has a brake on the wheels that can be activated when someone is stealing or the cart gets too far from store

Magnetic locks on the wheels and in the floor entrance prevent the carts from passing over. I had them in the store I managed.

I hate that locking mechanism in the grocery carts with a passion. I get why they invented it but when you're not a thief or crackhead then it's just annoying.
