Those white were children and she has soft spot for children because she’s mother.

She was a mother who was doing everything she could to get her people and the kids to safety. Seeing this first hand shook her and that’s why she had the reaction she did. Even though they’re dead, they’re still children in her eyes and she couldn’t bring herself to kill kids

They show her just before this load her kids onto a boat to leave, then shes met with a bunch of zombie kids. It's the most 1+1=2 scene you could find, and you're still confused by it.

You think that's scary I had a dream last night my bartenders wouldn't serve me drinks. I would just order the drinks and they would give them to other customers.

She had a daughter and likely froze in fear of what could happen to the remaining children. I’d also form a fan theory that she knew those children before they were killed by the Army of the Dead.

If I remember, the boy is supposed to be her brother or son who dies very young to other wildling faction raids or sickness. There is a story here that means something to her personally and I'm pretty sure the little boy was very dear to her in life.
