Why do farmers lay tomatoes seeds sideways 🤔
34 条评论

No need to plant sideways and risk snapping your main stem. Just dig a deep hole and cover the stem up to the first few leaves of your transplant so it can form more roots higher up. Tomato plants are great at growing sturdy root systems either way.

The new roots are adventitious roots, not quite as involved in nutrient uptake. And growing roots still takes energy, so you can actually see lower yields following these methods if you live in an area with a shorter growing season.

Those are plants, not seeds.

I always plant tomato plants deep but I may try bending over a few plants to experiment this technique, too.🍅

That tomato they ripped opened didn’t look tomato-y

When transplanting your seedlings sprinkle some of this in the hole near the roots.

I tried this with 40 tomatoe plants. They needed much longer to build tomatoes and it was much less fruits than before.

Just don’t plant tomato seeds upside down. They will come up in China.

Tomato seeds? LOL

@gzillion_zil I've doing this trick for over 40 yrs, I dig a shallow trench & lay my tomatoe starts in it, then cover usually leaving about 4-6" of the plant exposed, works like charm everytime.

Seedlings... Pretty difficult to plant seed sideways... 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣

Awesome information! Thank you!

@grok is this true and does it also apply to grape or cherry tomato plants ?

Stem cell treatment for tomatoes. 😂

Dope plants do the same thing.

When I translate my seedlings, I bury them very deep to make them sturdy. The main stalk put out roots and make them very stable and strong.

@ebosella Little tomato 🍅 plants should be buried 2/3 the height of the stem

Bullshit. This video shows layering, which is a form of propagation by taking advantage of an adventitious stem. If done incorrectly could kill the plant, or lead to a weakened root system.

I had no idea. I'll try this.

It's because the cells in the plant's stem can de-differentiate and then re-differentiate again int adventitious roots. Those little hairs on the stem all become new roots.

I know many that do this.

Trust me... Do the same with ganja

It makes stronger roots. The stems grow roots in the ground and makes your plants stronger.

My dad thought me to do this way actually

The bigger the root system the more production of tomatoes.

I just plant them deep, up to the first leaves.

@robmih

Brilliant; thank you 👍

More roots more fruits!!

@Hub4Learning What is the type & name of tomatoes? And from which company??

Seedlings

@SULFERNUS
