Why do I always learn the easiest things after I’ve graduated?

This is literally what they teach you in school. They just use the actual numbers instead of drawing lines like cavemen

That is the dumbest way possible. Would take too long and also take up too much space.

That’s just long division with extra steps.

Or you could just divide 9 by 3 in your head, divide 4 by 3 and carry the spare '1' to make 10. Divide 10 by 3 (all still using your head) and carry this spare '1' to make 12 and guess what? Divide 12 by 3 (in your head) Much easier than this palaver

this is just the exact same as long division but slower because you’re using tallies instead of a decimal system

How is that any easier or simpler than this? And I doubt it works for all numbers.

Isn’t easier just to know your times tables and understand long division?

While it's visualized slightly differently using the hack marks, it's the same way all of us were taught division back in the day. 3 goes into 9 3 times. 3 goes into 4 once, carry the 1 3 goes into 10 3 times, carry the 1 3 goes into 12 4 times, no remainder.

Or do it in your head in seconds.

That's just basically visualizing how division works and it only makes things easier with smaller numbers.
