Why do my debugging tools always accidentally look cooler than the damn game?

Do game devs really make even debugging this fun? Meanwhile I've spent years staring at tens of thousands of lines of text logs 👀

Me too!

…Because you put a glow effect on them? Lol

That was just so I could see them :D

the soul yearns for tron in reality, it's probably due to the fact that it's more fun to play when you have more visual acuity of what's actually important. So, maybe evolve your color palette and design a bit?

Not sure I know how 🤣 but I'll try

Looks like what you really want to make is a cyberpunk city.

make that the aesthetic and release it under the name "Debugged"

emission and bloom makes everything cool

Cool, did you build that?

Yeah, it started off as an experiment just to see how far AI could get but now I'm kind of addicted:

Cool, looking good.

It's like neon so cool

Thanks. Also makes wasteful collisions, like the player poking out of the vehicle, really obvious.

You should have a debug mode on production

fix your physics interpolation bruv it will be lot smoother

Probably but it doesn't run as slow when I don't have the debugger running and recording video. The collision view is also more delayed so as not to slow other things. But I'll certainly take a look, cheers for the advice.

It looks just like some cyberpunk cars.😂

it's always like that

Because details are beautiful

That's a good tip

Mastery of gta5 must be in the balance between details and customers compute.

It’s fascinating to see how things work. ❤️

It seems so! Until this one I thought nobody could see my posts.

Well the algorithm in this case hooked me up with someone who tinkers and comments on things I also find fascinating… I’ll follow to make sure it’s rewarded and your inquiries are more likely to pop up here. 🍻

'cause they are glowing

Because what you present to the players hides so much of the beautiful work that the debug tools reveal

Maybe they should be included in the game! actually the glowing edges thing could look really cool if adapted artistically

launch it

I need to make it fun first

I tried putting a fireworks asset as part of my victory screen, but the scaling was so far off they looked more like a laser light show. I ended up sticking with the lasers! Not saying you can/should do the same here, but that is a pretty neat look. Maybe as some sort of unlock?

You are the second person who has told me to embrace it :D

I based my first game project visuals/concept around this fact

That looks so sick! Reminds me of Quake 3/live. Love it. That move silently thing is interesting too. Great job!

Maybe you shoud add more neon signs 🙃

I feel judged 🤣

i tried explaining this pain to my therapist and just said "let's double the dosage"

Because you haven't realized they are the same game. You are a game debugger than got sucked into a broken game...

Then you should probably add this into your actual game. Maybe as an easter egg?

debug views always win on looks because they only have to be honest, the game has to stay readable and fun. honestly ship it as a dev mode

I also agree about that

i almost changed my games aesthetic vision for this very reason, so much so, it became the view for "build mode" 😂
