Why do our cities look dirty, with garbage everywhere? Here, a child is showing a banner about the penalty for littering, but his parents ignore it. The same parents will later complain on social media and blame the authorities for not keeping our cities clean. We often complain, but... we don't take responsibility ourselves but expect others to do so. We drive on the wrong side of the road and then complain about drivers who do the same. We throw garbage and then complain about unhygienic conditions. This is a result of social norms. We tend to do what others are doing, and the police cannot catch everyone, giving people an unfair advantage. This mentality trickles up the ladder, and nobody takes responsibility, leading to the mess we see in our cities. I doubt.. if someone is exposed to breaking rules from childhood,he's more likely to break in a system where breaking rules is not considered a fault.

Caste system, as someone else said it here on X - Every Indian believes cleaning up after myself is not my job, some other guy has this duty.

Now that we have a CCTV evidence against the couple, the question is whether they can be fined. Answer is a simple NO. India needs a strong anti-littering law across the country and it must be enforced. This is not just about cleanliness but also saving our nature.

That first generation of people living in post independence era never focused on duties. They assumed that they are free to do anything. "Whose father's road is this?.." kind of dialogue in all language films. That generation wasted time on movies, never gave values to children.

Our Airport, Mtero , Your house , Your temple looks clean because there is a system that keep it clean. The cities that system has failed and the people who are responsible to take care have failed it . Vijawada and Indore and clean cities . Patna and Delhi are not.

Do they have places where they can dump their trash? If not, we can’t blame them. People generally won’t litter if they find places where they can put their trash. In most cases, we won’t have places to put trash. So people dump them wherever they can.
