I hope the African American community doesn’t fall into the Zionist trap. Trump and his supporters were literally screaming from the moment his administration began, running a state-sponsored hate campaign against the Somali community and loudly insisting: We love African Americans but hate Somalis! What does that tell you? Also, I want to clarify something important: Somalis are not Arabs, and genetically Somalis carry lineages that are older than those of Arabs, who came long after us. But we share a religion and parts of our culture, and Somalia is a member of the Arab League. For some reason, some Africans in Africa dislike this closeness to Arabs and the fact that we share beliefs with them, and that’s nothing we will ever apologize for, nor is it our problem if it bothers anyone. I hope this explains why some people associate us with Arabs.

Is it just me, or does there seem to be an unhealthy obsession among some South African men with Nigerian men when it comes to relationships and South African women? The hostility is often so intense and so openly expressed that it is difficult to ignore. Instead of focusing on the real social and economic challenges facing society, some seem preoccupied with who South African women choose to date or marry. What exactly drives this fixation? Is it competition, insecurity, stereotypes, or something else? It would be interesting to have an honest conversation about where it comes from and why it generates such strong emotions.

I understand why so many of you Somalis defend the Arabs. You’ll carry their names, imitate their dress like a badge of honour, believing it will make you’ll more acceptable to the Arabian eyes. You turn your faces toward their deserts five times a day seeking prayer and salvation. In your genealogies you even claim they fathered you’ll lineage—that some Arab married the daughter of Samaale and thereby became the source of your existence. What I cannot understand is the selective blindness that follows. Why do you avert your eyes when the same Arabs in Saudi and Yemen treat your Somali kin’s and other African bodies with open contempt, when they police your skin, your features, and your presence as if you remain perpetual outsiders in the very Ummah you have chosen to believe exists? Why defend the architecture of cultural submission while ignoring the daily evidence of racial rejection inside the Ummah you have chosen to call home?
