This will be bad advice more than it will be good. Making your supports step up to be focused by 6 different characters rather than the 1-2 diving is dependent on team comps. It is easier to keep the diving players isolated and allow your front line to recover the rear..

it's true that for some characters you want to move in. Sue should move in. Cloak definitely should move in, as Dagger has AOE healing. same with WF, Mantis. but Gambit does better further away where he has full line of sight and can card bounce healing.
