1. Because you won’t be able to read our last names 2. There are too many Mendises

Because Sri Lankan surnames are too long 😁

The first name / last name concept is western. Many cultures around the world do not have that. Western minds find it hard to think outside their own social constructs.

Except jadeja, Samson, and some few other other Every indian player use their first name as well...
I think because the SL last names are often too long for the TV graphics 😄

Its out of respect for the real jawardhane

Because no one can pronounce Sri Lankan last names.

Indians also use their first names.

Because there are 3 Mendises in the squad

That’s why they’re called “lontha” buddy. Look it up.

Because our last names are (surnames) too long 🙈😅

Muhammad Imran ... Muhammad is added in respect to Prophet Muhammad PBUH, no one names their child Muhammad in Pakistan especially n in Muslims in general.

It’s pretty simple, really. If there are too many players with the same surname, we go with the 1st name. And for names in Pakistan and South India, naming conventions are different. Ravichandran Ashwin for example is Ashwin. His dad is Ravichandran, so we go with Ashwin

mainly cause there's another dude in the team with the same surname - or the new guys surname is too potent to take right now (jayawerdenes shoes are very big)

Too long and difficult to read their last names…

Because first name is the real of a person 🤷♂️

Because you cannot fit Prabhakarna Sripalawardhana Attapattu Jayasuriya Laxmansivaramkrishnan Shivavenkata Rajsekara Sriniwasa Trichipalli Yekya Parampeel Parambatur Chinnaswami Muthuswami Venugopal Iyer on the TV screen.

1. Sri lankan surnames are too long and difficult to read 2. There are several players with the same surname (Eg: Perera, Mendis, Fernando, Silva)

Some Pakistani players with their first names: Babar Fakhar Saim Maaz Abdullah Shadab Shaheen Naseem Etc.
