No We should respect the language of a country If 2 French people speak in their own language & discuss "L'Ecosse" Then it's their choice Their language None of our business if I to talk to you about "Bombay" or "Rome" or "Moscow" It's silly to say "Moombai" "Roma" or "Moskva"

Wikipedia says it’s because Deutschland had so many neighbours in different directions, who all came up with different names & couldn’t agree on one. I think it’s because we would all have to learn to spell ‘deutschland’ & even Spellincorrect hasn’t learned to recognise it.

Some of these names have been used long before the country was called that. The Germans only decided to be a country called Deutschland in 1871, but we've referred to that region as being where the Germans live for thousands of years.

Yet with some places we've been told be have to use the native pronunciation. Kyiv and Turkiye recent examples. Theres no consistency.
