Why Do Workers Pack in So Much Grease?

Without grease, metal parts will just grind each other down when they interact. Grease or lubrication makes metal parts interact more smoothly and extends their life. The two brass things in the left image are worm gears, which enable a snowblower's augers in the front to spin. After 19 years, the worm gear in my snowblower wore down, and it no longer interacted with the rotating shaft. I had to replace the old worm gear with a new one (which has its teeth), in the right image. It was either replace a $40 part or spend at least $1,000 on a new snowblower.

Gears are more and more often packed in grease and permanently sealed. The days of doing lube jobs have long since passed.

the statement on the colour of grease is bullshit its PURELY up to the manufacturer what the colour means, there is no accepted standard on the colours

All the empty space not filled by grease will fill up with moisture, dirt and other contaminants

I'm not an engineer but, it may depend on many factors Component material used & quality Machining tolerances & workloads Temperature dissipation or control Friction reduction / lubrication Reduction of downtime for maintenance Bottom line, quality and durability of parts Imo.

Because it's cheap, a good precaution and doesn't harm the mechanisms

Better to have extensive grease then not enough I saw what happens when a thick metal gear just bursts and takes everything with it

Simply because their elbows cannot stand it anymore. (Grok, the best AI in the world, doesn't know the difference between elbow & hand)

Why not, if there's space?

Simple physics … it’s called friction.

I guess it's AI slop. Better use too little than too much.

Главное–вовремя уронить запчасть в песок или землю! А потом очень долго материться

Without it steel parts wear and get hot.
