The sky is blue because sunlight, when it crosses the Earth's atmosphere, is refracted and hits the atoms of oxygen and nitrogen gases, which disperses it in all its colors, with their respective wavelengths, reflected by these particles. The color that disperses and is best reflected is blue.

The sky appears blue due to Rayleigh scattering. Shorter blue wavelengths of sunlight are scattered in all directions by gases and particles in Earth's atmosphere, making the sky look blue to our eyes.
