Good points Father. It should be noted also that the pagans burned the bodies of their dead.

Cost of burial in Canada starts at 9000$CAD, and can go as high as 25000$. Shall I ask someone to surreptitously bury me in my backyard?

Thank you Father, for explaining this so clearly.

The church should have a fund to help the poor and working poor pay for burials if it is going to bind their conscience to the practice of burials. I'm for burial but it is expensive for folks barely getting by.

You’re an idiot. My dad was cremated against my will, his soul is no longer in his body. My step mother cremated him swiftly without approval. He is in heaven. lol, if you think that’s suicide, quite frankly you’re an illiterate unpastoral retard. God has no limits.

seems to me that her wish was selfish to begin with because she didn't realize God loves her so she wouldn't be a burden

I wish that was all. In Greece we exhume the body and collect the bones. Later on, they are mixed together with everybody else's bones in a common area until they turn to dust. Relatives request cremation for themselves once they have gone through this ordeal.

The bodies given to the sea and the flame will come at the end This lays alongside archaic beliefs of contraceptives that seem purely based in modern teachings and not to me the first fathers

Social media is more corrupting than cremation

Wait, what? They don't? ...You were so close to being based, Orthodoxy. God is GOD. He can resurrect the dead during the Second Coming whether they are six feet under or whether their remains are nothing but ashes. Christ was also crucified before he was buried, so uh...?

Ok. What if the person is cremated after death against its will?!?

I'm very torn, my grandma has dementia and before she fell ill to this she insisted on being cremated. Now that she has this disease, my family wants to fulfill her wishes when she had a clear mind. I'm the only Orthodox Christian in my family so I want to help her but how?

When you bury a body water quickly seeps into your casket and you liquify into the ground. Hardly better. It’s about intent not method.

I was born with a defective heart. Modern surgery was able to repair the defect, and I am so grateful. I want to gift my body to research to help others with this defect. But my body will be then be cremated, then returned to my family to be buried in the family plot. Is this OK?

No. Orthodox teaching forbids voluntary cremation. The body is the temple of the Holy Spirit and is to be buried intact in hope of the resurrection. Whole-body donation that ends in cremation (standard practice) is therefore not acceptable, even when the ashes are later buried. Charitable intent is good, but the Church requires traditional burial.

The burial is a Christian ritual that will allow the dead to be resurrected.
