Social Security and Medicare are not optional, We are legally required to pay into it a percentage of our wages up to a certain amount. They are a long term care insurance plan that pays based on actuarial science and life expectancy so that we are able to retire and/or handle certain adverse events (disability, etc). We have paid the premiums for this insurance. To not honor their part is a breech of contract. Breaking such a long term contract to its own citizens would destroy the government and the country.

@SenSchumer Do you understand that Dems do not control the House or Senate? This is about ALL they can do. They can propose legislation, but Johnson will never bring it to the floor for a vote. The GOP controls every committee. Dems can't hold Congressional hearings or issue subpoenas.
