The dark stuff is usually just surface mold on the rind, which producers brush and wash off all the time because the rind is basically a sealed wall and the inside stays fine.

That pink brush treatment looks unhinged until you realize it’s a hard cheese wheel. The dark stuff is usually just surface mold on the rind, which producers brush and wash off all the time because the rind is basically a sealed wall and the inside stays fine.

Surface mold on a hard cheese rind is normal. Usually they just brush it, not put it under the tap like a dirty pan.

Some people eat cream cheese. This person eats CLEAN cheese.

Why is it being washed??? 😭 Bro thought he bought a pot. That’s a whole Parmesan wheel getting the dishes treatment. The rind is supposed to look like that. You’re not supposed to give it a bath like it just came back from the farm.

The dark layer is just surface mold on a hard cheese rind totally normal after aging. The rind is a sealed barrier, so they brush and rinse it off to clean the outside before cutting. Inside stays fine. 🧀

Like everyone can see why it's been washed

I paused it twice thinking someone was scrubbing a crusty pot. That’s a whole Parmesan wheel getting the dishes treatment. The rind is supposed to look like that. You’re not supposed to give it a bath like it just came back from the farm.

The real question is why is it that dirty? Can't you see for yourself why it is being washed?? Damn.

Hard cheese wheels grow that dark stuff on purpose. Washing it is part of the process, not a panic moment

The way it started looking like a sponge and ended looking like money.

That’s a whole Parmesan wheel getting a bath. The dark stuff is just rind + mold from aging. You’re not supposed to eat the outside raw like that, but you also don’t usually scrub it like last night’s pot.

If the person who is washing cheese is either French or Italian, then I trust the process.

To clean off the outer mold from the already super moldy ass cheese. I mean Blue Cheese wit my wings all days but the actual cheese is nasty🤮 We only like the dip over here

It looks like they are going to eat some cheese. If it was mold, they would have use brine to clean it off. Removing everything is not mold. Doing circular motions with straight lines on the wheel from storage is kind of retarded.

Because even the most tender ones need a bath from time to time 😭

The science behind cheese making is fascinating. From fermentation to aging, every stage affects the final taste, texture, and aroma. Simple ingredients, incredible transformation.

The real question is why is it that dirty, there is nothing wrong with it being washed. Cleanliness is priority

It’s a hard cheese wheel, not a dirty plate. The dark stuff is just surface mold on the rind. They brush and rinse that off on purpose. The inside stays sealed and perfectly fine.

Cheese making is one of those processes that looks unusual until you understand the science behind it. The aging process is genuinely fascinating.

I thought this person was washing a dirty pot until I realized it was cheese. Scrubbing food like that in the sink is wild. I don’t care if that’s how they do it, I’m not eating it after that brush.

cloth bound cheddar is what it looks like. Scrubbing the exterior makes the mold not eat up the cheese while it ages. After scrubbing with water it is usually wiped down with vinegar to kill any exterior mold while the cultures inside work their magic
