Why is Portugal's territory mostly water? 📹simple.map-

Portugal's vast maritime territory comes from its exclusive economic zone (EEZ), which extends far into the Atlantic due to the Azores and Madeira.

EEZ is not considered territory, most of it is international waters. If I'm not mistaken territorial rights end at 12 nautical miles from the coastline.

São Martinho do Porto is a village in Portugal with a shell-shape bay surrounded by a white sand beach. They bay formed when a strip of land along the coast was eroded and divided by the Atlantic Ocean
