🚨🇺🇦💀 Ukraine says Russian manpower losses continue to outpace recruitment, despite a slowdown in daily battlefield eliminations. Drone Forces Commander Robert Brovdi (“Madyar”) argues that Moscow remains trapped in a costly war of attrition. According to Robert Brovdi (“Madyar”), Commander of Ukraine’s Unmanned Systems Forces, the average daily number of Russian troops detected and eliminated by Ukrainian drones fell by 16.3% in August, dropping to 313 per day, compared with 374 per day in July. Brovdi attributed the decline primarily to the exceptionally heavy losses suffered by Russian assault units at the end of July during large-scale breakthrough attempts on several sectors of the front, as well as to degraded logistics in the southern occupied territories, where drone activity has made road movement increasingly dangerous. He specifically pointed to the failed “meat assault” in the sector held by Ukraine’s 1st National Guard Corps (“Redis Corps”), where Russian forces were forced to retreat after sustaining severe losses. According to Brovdi, Ukrainian drones eliminated or critically wounded 30,957 Russian personnel in July, while Russia recruited 29,800 new contract soldiers during the same period. He also presented cumulative figures for December through July, claiming that Russia added 245,139 contract troops, while 253,438 personnel were killed, seriously wounded, or went missing, leaving a negative balance of 8,299 troops. Brovdi argued that these figures illustrate the reality of a prolonged war of attrition, where Russia is struggling to expand its frontline manpower despite continuous recruitment, resulting in what he described as “running in place” rather than achieving meaningful force growth. 🇷🇺💰 Even inside Russia’s state financial establishment, confidence in Moscow’s war of attrition is beginning to crack. Andrei Klepach, chief economist at the state development corporation VEB.RF, says Russia cannot win an attritional confrontation as long as Ukraine continues receiving large-scale Western support. Klepach argues that the wartime economic surge of 2023–2024 has already exhausted itself. Investment is weakening, civilian industries are slipping into recession, while sanctions and increasingly damaging Ukrainian deep strikes are raising costs across the economy. He compared Russia’s current trajectory with periods surrounding the February Revolution and the collapse of the Soviet Union. While he does not expect Russia itself to disintegrate, he warns that a serious social crisis and further technological and economic decline relative to the rest of the world are increasingly likely. The source makes the warning particularly uncomfortable for the Kremlin. VEB.RF is not an opposition institution but a state development corporation directly tied to Russia’s government and responsible for financing major strategic projects. When warnings that Russia cannot economically outlast a Western-backed Ukraine begin emerging from inside the machinery responsible for financing the Russian state’s ambitions, the Kremlin’s favorite assumption, that time inevitably works in Moscow’s favor, becomes considerably harder to sustain.
